WiMAX (4G) takes 3 steps forward, 2.5 back

Nokia in what is most certainly a surprising and unknown move is pulling all WiMAX edition N810 tablets.  The N810 was released several months ago when WiMAX was practically non-existent.  Nokia was hoping adoption and roll out of WiMAX would be much faster than it has been.  I’m sure the economy had some play as fewer people are willing to splurge on electronic gadgets.  Also, Mobile Burn is reporting that poorly operating switches were also to blame for the abrupt reacll.  Whatever the case Nokia is completely washing its hands of the N810.  Production is coming to a halt, stores are to stop selling them, and any remaining stock is being ordered to be shipped back to the factory.  If you want to get a piece of this short lived Nokia goodness, Boy Genius is reporting that it is still available for sale on Nokia’s U.S. website.  It is currently unknown whether or not Nokia will relaunch the N810 when WiMAX availability is a little more wide spread.  We can only hope.

It is sad to note that the N810 was announced at last years CES and since then only two markets have come out, Baltimore and Portland.  Finally as WiMAX is making *extremely slow rollout progress*, one of the few devices that support it gets the axe.  It is a sad day for 4G indeed.
