Apple changes position, approves “RSS Player…(a.k.a. Podcaster)?

Apple isn’t exactly known as having the most uniform approval methods for App Store apps.  They’ve approved some apps that make absolutely no sense at all, while denying some that could actually prove to be big money makers.  The danger is that those denied developers with apps that have some actual use are driven to 3rd party methods such as Cydia and the jailbreaking community.  The exact opposite of what Apple wants.  Podcaster, an app that had previously had a round with the App Store censors approvers, is now being given a second chance at life, albeit with a few changes.  What’s the big change?  You know what to do.

Well, besides sporting a new name, this new version of Podcaster does away with the built in cast directories.  This is really the only big change that appears to have allowed it to pass by the almighty Apple.  Did Apple get confused over the new features and functionality thereby letting it slip under the radar?  Who cares!  It’s here.  One nice tidbit is that Podcaster DOES NOT have the 10MB limit that the native iTunes Music App does thereby allowing you to download a larger Podcast in the entirety.  Honestly, the number of Podcasts bigger than 10MB is growing daily so this could sway people to start dumping the built in iTunes app.  1 point for the consumer.  Hopefully Apple continues this change of heart and opens up a little bit more.
