Nokia 5800 NAM here today…gone tomorrow

  • February 28, 2009 10:49 pm

thumbs-down

In what is sure to disappoint many Nokia faithful, Nokia’s 5800 NAM has been pulled from the shelves a mere 7 hours after going on sale.  Many lost and directionless people are left scratching their heads and asking why.  The answer is no surprise and has been identified so far as an issue with the handsets connecting to 3G signals.  Seems as if they are perfectly happy staying on the good ‘ol 2G network.  The owners however have a problem with this and are taking their new found loves back to the store.  Nokia knows about the issue and is currently working on a fix.  How soon we’ll see the 5800′s back on shelves is currently unknown.  Hopefully they get things sorted out quick.

“Blue Shadow” theme for Nokia 5800

While I showcase many Blackberry themes, that doesn’t mean that I’m not looking for or don’t appreciate other device themes.  Good design has no hardware limits.  When I stumbled upon the Blue Shadow theme I knew that I had to show it to you.  While I personally don’t have a Nokia 5800, I can definitely tell this is one of the better themes available for the device as “Costa”, the developer, has definitely put some time into this theme.  For all interested Nokia 5800 users, you can pick up your own copy over at Daily Mobile’s forums.

Camino beta 2 available….NOW

The last couple of days Apple’s Safari browser has been stealing most of the spotlight.  However, there is another contender in the browser market that also got some new numbers and updated functionality: Camino.  More or less a “Mac Firefox”, Camino is a lightweight and fast browser built using the same rendering engine as Firefox while being natively written in Mac’s Cocoa language.  I’ve been using the latest beta 2 of Camino 2 and I have to say I like it a lot.  Does it have the cover flow start page?  No.  But that’s ok.  It makes up for it in sheer simplicity and speed, something Safari seems to be getting further and further from.  If you’d like to pick up your own copy of Camino beta 2, stop by their site and start your download!

NTT DoCoMo’s Blackberry Bold taking after AT&T’s Quickfire?

  • February 27, 2009 8:06 am

blackberrybold

Bad news for Blackberry hopefulls on Japan’s NTT DoCoMo’s network: it is being reported that the DoCoMo is halting sales on the Blackberry Bold due to overheating issues while charging.  AT&T’s humorously titled “Quickfire” is still fresh in our minds with it’s own overheating issues.  Apparently there is an epidemic going around that affect peoples’ ability to plug in their cell phones properly.  While I joke, this current NTT DoCoMo issue doesn’t seem to be anywhere remotely related to the actual person pluging in the charger.  Out of the roughly 3,000 Bold’s that have been sold so far in Japan 30 users have reported the keypad getting hot when charging.  Currently no one has been burned nor has any Bold spontaneously burst into flames.  RIM has already acknowledged the issue and said that they have ruled out a battery issue as other countries’ Blackberry Bolds aren’t suffering from this issue and that the investigation to the cause is ongoing.  Hopefully they find a fix fast as I’m sure their are many Japanese Crackberry users who will now have to go a little longer without RIM’s amazing Blackberry Bold.  Do you live/work in Japan and purchased a Bold?  If so, have you had any problems regarding overheating?  Lets expand it further, has anyone from any country had any overheating problems with their Bold?  Lets us know!

*By the way, I know there’s an AT&T logo on the Bold pictured in an article talking about NTT DoCoMo’s Bold.  However, I couldn’t find a big enough picture that didn’t look like crap…so AT&T’s Bold wins out*
