Chalk this up there as a big ‘ol rumor. This evening a flurry of activity is making its way around the digital world concerning Apple’s pretty much known refreshes for their iMacs, Mac Pros, and Mac Minis. The date that’s has been rumored so far is March 24th. However someone let slip tomorrow as the day of reckoning and now Mac fanboys everywhere are pouncing. While I would greatly appreciate tomorrow as a nice surprise, I don’t think tomorrow is a very plausible date. For one, Apple loves being the center of attention. CeBiT and PMA are both going on right now meaning Apple would have to compete for the media’s attention. Also, with so many refreshes and announcements to make, one would think Apple would do it in a more traditional method such as at a “show” and sending invites ot the media. However that hasn’t happened. Tomorrow is Tuesday however, Apple’s favorite day of the week so anything is possible. Come inside for the low down on what is supposed to be announced tomorrow…if not later this month..the list is pretty long so take a seat.
iMacs:
- MB147 20-inch model
- Three 24-inch SKUs: MB148 “mass-market,” MB149 “high-end,” and MB420 “ultimate.” Mini Display Port will be incorporated on all models with processors running up to 3.06GHz
Mac mini:
- 5 USB ports
- Dual mini DVI/mini display port
- Nvidia Chipset
- Processors starting at 2.0 GHz
Mac Pro:
- 8-Core configurations from 3.0-3.66GHz
- 16-core configurations from 3.6-4.0GHz
- two regular DVI ports and a mini display port (?)
- 35lbs (because that’s sooo important)
Airport Extreme and Time Capsule:
- 2.4GHz and 5.0 GHz simultaneous operation
All in all it looks very exciting. Will these goods in fact break out into the world tomorrow without so much as a small surprise and Apple’s infamous “We’ll be back soon” sticky note on the Apple store? We will all know soon enough. One thing to note is that the iMac’s are still dual-cores which is slightly disappointing as I was hoping for a quad core iMac. A nice compromise between ease of use (all-in-one) and power (Mac Pro). Looks like my covet list will only grow and my wallet weep. So what do you think. Will Apple let loose a truck load of new goods for us to lust over…or will tomorrow be just your average Tuesday?
