In the world of flash storage, if you bought your card last week, it’s already outdated and small (size wise). Prices are dropping fast and storage size is increasing equally. If you are a big photographer or movie buff and have a device that uses SD cards I have some bitter sweet news for you. Pretec has announced that they are bringing to market the worlds first 32GB SDXC card. Said card will have fairly respectable transfer rates of 50MB/s. Further down the road, Pretec is making bold claims of 2TB SDXC cards with transfer speeds of up to 300MB/s! Whew. Now that’s fast for flash memory this size. As with most good things in life, there is always an some sort of downside. This one being that there currently aren’t any devices on the market that support these next gen SD cards. Read: You can’t use them on older SD or SDHC devices. Sad I know, more of your money will go towards yet another electronic gadget. Just remember, it could always be worse.
