Flash has long been the holy grail if you will of the mobile internet world. If a handset manufacturer and mobile OS developer can get flash, they’ve got an instant hit…more or less. Even the almighty iPhone lacks flash. Though, Jobs claimed it was of poor performance that didn’t meet their stict requirements for a desierable user experience. Microsoft has long been in development of a flash fighter dubbed “Silverlight”. This inhouse “flash-type” software allows rich video/audio/whatever else you want content to be interacted with rigth inside of your web browser. Today, mobile internet junkies have another item to put in that “I want it now” imaginary bag in their mind along with iPhone copy & paste as Microsoft has revealed that Silverlight mobile will debut in Windows Mobile 7. Unfortunately they weren’t quick enough to make the WinMo 6.5 cut. While sad, it could be a blessing in disguise as other rushed products have turned out quite poorly…*I’m looking at you vista*. So sit back, relax, and feel the contentment of knowing that the web will be a little richer come early next year.

MySpace is known for picture after picture of drunken party after drunken party, teenie boppers taking close to half a million pictures of the same mashed up face, and of course, your nerds-wannabe ganksta’s. Often these fine individuals aren’t the best photographers or in many cases some other outside liquid influence is compromising their ability to properly hold a camera and take a picture. If this is starting to sound like you or someone you know, or you just like to edit pictures, MySpace is rolling out a new feature that is sure to please you: In browser photo editing…

In what is good news if not slightly comical, the Dev Team has announced that Apple’s just announced iPhone 3.0 OS has already sucomb to their almighty knowledge and has been jailbroken. Don’t get too excited though as the 3.0 OS isn’t even publicly available yet. Though the lucky developers get to get their hands on it early. Still, the Dev Team is saying that they are waiting until Apple releases 3.0 to release their Jailbreak. It’s probably a good thing if you ask me. You don’t want to release the jailbreak now and give Apple time to fix it in official 3.0 launch. Keep them on the defensive. Though, with all of the features that were revealed, and still many unanswered questions and unrevealed updates, how much longer will Jailbreaking be worth it? Sure you can tether for free and use Bluetooth to its full potential *only real reasons I can see for jailbreaking now* as well as customize your device with scores of themes. While extremely cool, the themes are but a novelty. So how much longer do you think jailbreaking will be relevant? A couple more months? Year? Decades? Spill the beans!

What do you think of when you hear MP3? For some, they think of portable music players, online music stores, and NOT CD’s. For others, they think of crappy low quality over priced junk. The bittersweet existence of MP3 constantly pulls at the heartstrings of the occupants of planet earth. On one hand, it makes the .WAV files on CD’s much smaller meaning you can take a boat load with you on your MP3 player. However, on the other hand, it strips away parts of your music, granted, depending on the quality of the encoder and bit rate the quality of the file will also change. Still, even a high quality MP3 file is nothing like a full quality .WAV or lossless FLAC file. Thomson, one of the original creators of the now common place MP3 format announced yesterday a new “next gen” format: MP3 HD. What is MP3 HD? Come inside for the sonic rundown.

YouTube junkies, Nokia faithfuls and WinMo purists have a reason to stop the weeping this fine March day. YouTube has released native apps for Symbian and WinMo devices. The app makes it much easier to browser for you favorite videos such as the large woman riding a dirt bike or the guy that loves to car surf. All are now more easily at your finger tips at speeds up to 90% faster! All isn’t perfect however as you can’t save your favorite videos…(why?). Still, it’s a great app for Nokia and WinMo users alike. Get your mobile tube watching on now by pointing your device to m.youtube.com and following the onscreen instructions. Step inside for a few pictures *property of E71 Fanatics* of the S60 YouTube app in action. The new app will work on all WinMo devices and all Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature pack 1 and 2. For a full list of supported Symbian S60 phones check this out.

It seems as if only yesterday, the “Red Rings of Death” were in the forefront of tech news. Xbox 360 users from far and wide were experiencing system maiming glitches in which the only solution was to wait a small eternity to get your fixed unit back. Microsoft so far has payed dearly for the ‘ol RRoD to the tune of $1 billion+ to make good on their warranty claims. With RRoD behind them, all was looking peachy for them. That was until E74 started appearing. What is “E74″ you ask. E74 is an issue in which the Xbox 360 has either a faulty AV connector, or a more frequently common loosened AHA/HANA scaling chip. It displays an error in the form of one red light on the bottom left of your Xbox (shown above). Either way, it isn’t good news for Microsoft who just can’t seem to get the whole build quality thing down right.
Now it is worth noting that E74 “Red Arc of Death” *Engadget* isn’t new per say, it’s just that the number of reports of RAoD since October have been steadily rising making for another epidemic of broken Xbox’s and long waits for avid gamers. A possible culprit is the NXE (New Xbox Experience) update that was pushed out back in Novemeber. However, the reports of E74 started rising before the NXE update so it may be a bigger problem after all. Poor Microsoft. I feel bad for Xbox users who may have been hit by RRoD and possibly get hit again by E74. So have you been lucky enough to have an Xbox that has withstood these nasty problems? Or have you been bitten once or twice? Let us know below!

Take this with a couple of grains of salt for now, but sources from LG in Korea are “confirming” that Apple will be releasing a netbook(s), new iPhone, and new iPod Touch that will use a new OLED display produced by LG themselves. A jump to OLED would be a pretty hefty jump bringing even better image quality than the current iPhone/iPod Touch screen offers as well as drastically reducing battery life. Another interesting tid bit is that these new OLED displays will supposedly have a special layer that will be immune to “fingerprinting. Definitely some interesting and mind piquing information. With all of the next gen iPhone mock-ups floating around the net plus new iPhone and iPod Touch model numbers appearing in the latest iPhone 3.0 OS, the pieces of the puzzle start to come together. What do you think folks?
