Windows XP’s death delayed yet again…
With Windows 7 coming out, one would think Microsoft would be all for the push to 7 as Vista was a unanimous flop. Windows 7 while not adding anything groundbreaking in terms of new features does have added reliability and speed on its side (or so they claim). It comes with great and utterly disappointing pain that I pass along this information: Microsoft has again extended Windows XP’s life. How far? Does it really matter? Should an 8 year old operating system even be an option (let alone a “paid” downgrade option that many computer manufacturers are charging)?
Some would argue that XP is a great operating system that has stood the test of time and is still useful today. I call that Bull ****. While it is now a useful and finely tuned OS, it is old – very old. I would venture out on a limb and say Microsoft failed miserably with Vista and needs something to save itself in case 7 isn’t welcomed with exactly open arms. I can’t see 7 being rejected as even the betas have been worlds better than Vista could ever hope to be. From playing around with the betas, Windows 7 is actually something to be excited about. The redesigned task bar is one of the better things coming along with Windows 7 feature wise. The speed and memory performance increases and decreased system load are also big perks as Vista was slower than a rusted Chevy up on cinderblocks.
Are the IT/XP lovers out there feeling safe and content that they can order their brand spanking new PC with an 8 year old OS downgrade option? Does the fact that Microsoft is giving you the option of an old and PlaySchool looking OS instill confidence in you about Windows 7? All will be answered in due time. Until then just be happy with your tried and true XP box and know that big M still cares about you golden oldies.
