Fighting the good fight against oppressive wireless carriers

Wireless carriers aren’t exactly the most welcoming or warmest company in terms of freedoms and privileges.  However, our friends from several different countries just across the big blue pond do get to enjoy many more wireless freedoms that us Americans don’t such as legally mandated unlocked handsets.  Well it seems that Belgium wireless users may have  won another fight as the EU (European Union) may be on their way to forcing carriers to allow VoIP services over their networks.  While this is bad for networks who claim the added traffic from VoIP services will bring network traffic to a crawl, it is awesome for consumers who would like to save a few Euro’s on minutes.  The EU is claiming the wireless industry is stifling innovative services and must be stopped.  *sighs*  If only our American government or some organization had the power and ambition to do such work here in the states…
