AT&T forging ahead with capped/tiered broadband plans [Bait and Switch]

The next time you are shopping around for home broadband service, be weary of a certain little company called AT&T. They have a track record for not being quite too consumer friendly in regards to business policies and CS support. The latest rage in the technological world is the disappointing switch to tiered and capped broadband plans. Instead of a one size fits all type of model, many are charging based on what you download. Sounds great on the surface right? However, low caps and high fees mean this new business model is designed solely around lining the providers’ pockets with more of your hard earned cash.

Tack this on the board of irony that we all have stashed away in our rooms.  A study by BI Norwegian School of Management has come up with some surprising data about piracy, who downloads it, and why they are the music labels’ best friends – as in Torrent users are 10x more likely to pay for music than non-torrent users.  What?!  This would certainly be a big hole in music labels’ and other anti-piracy lawsuits who keep pushing the idea home that pirates are the reason no one pays for music anymore.  Apparently that isn’t true.  Head on over to the *translated* page and have a looksie for yourself.  So does this change your view either favorably or not on digital pirates?  Will piracy lawsuits around the world now crumble as the prosecution is now destoryed?  Probably not, but it’s nice to dream about.  *Bonus Challenge* – if you’re feeling really adventerous (or happen to know Norwegian), view the web pages in their original language and see if you can’t gleen a few more details eh?

If you have ever had the misfortune in life of losing your cellphone, or even worse a smartphone with all kinds of company or personal secrets, you know the feeling of embarrasment that is lurking in the shadows the second any text or visual information is leaked to friends/competitors/or even the media.  Blackberry users have for some time now been able to remotely wipe lost or stolen devices.  Symbian and WinMo users however have not been so lucky.  Thankfully someone is looking out for *some* you.  UMU has developed a very simple and effective piece of software called StopTheif which which will give Nokia Series 60 or Windows CE users the ability to remotely lock and wipe their device.  How does it work?  A simple text message sent to the lost or stolen device is all that is needed to bury  your skeletons once and for all,  (Assuming you didn’t put said skeletons on a calendar entry as the calendar entries are strangely left out of the wiping process).  Interested and security loving individuals can get a copy of StopTheif from UMU’s online store for only 9.95 British Pounds.  (That’s $14.72 for the dollar using community).  Pick up a copy and let us know how it works.

Often times when we mention a Crackberry users or nerd, our minds instantly think of some middle aged, slightly to grossly over weight man with graying hair and a receding hairline.  *Not to offend – nothing wrong with the aforementioned traits*.  What you don’t think of is some cutsie young girl proudly carrying around her gadgets with a big smile on her face.  One particular gadget that has had a large increase in subscriber base in the last one to two years is RIM with their ever popular Blackberry.  It seems more and more casual users are jumping into the world of smartphones and making a good first jump at that.  Finally, the Blackberry theming community is picking up on this growing trend of increased female users and is starting to pump out more and more complex themes geared towards that area of the market.  iBerry Pink Zen is personally one of the coolest looking girly themes I have seen yet.  Even the pink and bluish tinted iPhone-esque icons were designed very well.

If you are one of the growing female users to Crackberry nation or you just like flowers, * it’s ok, I won’t judge you*, head on over to BPlay today and get your Pink Zen on for the now standard premium theme price of $6.99.  By the way, iBerry Pink Zen can be downloaded for ALL Blackberry devices from as far back as the 81xx series up to the 95xx series.  I can tell you this, just by pictures alone, if I were a chick, I would definitely pick this theme up!
