PSP Go breaks out: says good-bye to UMD, Hello to your credit card

  • May 31, 2009 4:15 pm

go-1

Even though Sony loves to play the deny game, and have been doing so concerning any rumors that had to do with any PSP replacement, have finally got nowhere to hide.  Mere days before E3 is set to kick-off with Sony officially announcing the PSP-Go, pictures of Sony’s next iteration of the PSP have been leaked giving everyone the ability to take a nice long stare at the Go.  Besides looking remarkably different than the PSP-3000 by way of a new slider/controller design, the Go features:

  • 3.8″ Display (Resolution unknown at this time)
  • 16GB flash internal memory
  • Memory Stick Micro support
  • Full Playstation Network Support as well as full integration with Playstation 3
  • Bluetooth w/ support for phone tethering and BT headset support

If those specs are enough to make you drool over, you may be happy to know you’ll only have to wait a little longer as the Go is rumored to be released sometime this fall.  Also, the PSP-Go is not actually a replacement for the PSP-3000 as they are going to be sold along side each other.  If you have a PSP-3000, is the early leak of the PSP-Go enough to motivate you to part with your old love and move on to something new?  If you don’t have any PSP at all, is the Go finally the unit you’ve been waiting for?  Is the new slider design perfect for your fatter fingers?  A few more eye candies and the chance to verbalize your deepest passions await you after the click.

China Mobile not greedy /sarcasm – claiming 50%+ stake on app store sales

Users on China Mobile’s network have been for some time now waiting for an *official* release of Apple’s uber phone heard ’round the world.  While the phone has been available for quite a while now unlocked and “illegally”, according to Apple’s stance on unlocking and jailbreaking, having a legit offering will no doubt entice the more reluctant buyers to purchase a “legal” option.  However, the big success and draw with the iPhone now centers around the tight integration with the App Store.  Developers are the big picture, their creations and innovations on the software side of things have made the iPhone what it is today.  Naturally, being rewarded keeps developers happy and keeps them developing for the platform.  China Mobile doesn’t seem to get this “happiness” factor.  What good is a piece of hardware without equally good software to go along with it?

Blackberry BIS 2.7 feature list revealed….*Yawn*

  • May 31, 2009 12:14 pm

bis27-1

Blackberry BIS users hoping that 2.7 would pack a bunch by way of new features will be sorely and grossly disappointed as it seems this next update will be nothing but worthlessness.  While I am glad to be back in the Blackberry world now, it’s a good thing I know what RIM is capable of and some of the great things that are planned further ahead in the future.  Because, if I was a first time user who was looking at the updated feature list for BIS 2.7, I’d jump ship to anywhere.  Enough wallowing in sorrow, how about that feature list eh?

**Basically, an improved email help screen is the “talk of the town” with the latest BIS update**

  • Send service books (because somehow that was hard before – forget that there was already multiple ways to do so)
  • Open the BB Help site on the device itself.  (Good for new comers I guess)
  • Access Blackberry Answers (More newcomer goodness)
  • Contact Info for wireless providers.  (Useful, but are these really all/enough to give this “update” a whole new version number -> 2.7?

Are ya even the slightest let down?  Pics of the new found help inside.

HandyWeather for Blackberry [Review]

current-future-forecast

Coming off of yesterday’s review of BerryWeather, HandyWeather is following closely vying for your dollar and dedicated spot on your berry. As far as weather information is concerned, HandyWeather does a good job of laying out the information on the screen in a decent manner that is easy to read. Though, while the app isn’t ugly by any means, I much prefer BerryWeather’s visual appearance. HandyWeather is quick and simple to set up. However, settings hounds who love to control everything may find the apps settings menu a bit sparse as there are hardly any options to adjust yourself. Also, the lack of a “live” homescreen icon like BerryWeather’s makes this app less useful for those quick glances where you just want to see the temp/condition before heading out. Actually navigating to the app and opening it isn’t that long of a process, but, every feature counts. Finally, those still looking for a good weather radar app for Blackberry will be disappointed as HandyWeather doesn’t have one in sight. In quick conclusion, I would still have to rate BerryWeather as my favorite Blackberry weather application so far.

There’s so much more to know about HandyWeather – such as the unique graph like weather screen. For a much deeper and thorough review, head on over to my full review at **BB Geeks to get the full scoop.

3-app limit gone from Win 7 starter – Aero/custom themes/wallpapers still blocked

  • May 30, 2009 9:50 am

windows7

Netbook users who were worried of the upcoming 3-app limit on their netbooks that were more than capable of running more than 3 apps can rest assured that Windows 7 starter, the netbook edition, will in fact let multitaskers do what they do best.  However, the more creative and artistically minded will still have a huge problem in that the Windows Aero look will not be available in starter.  Meaning custom wallpapers, colors, themes, etc. will not be featured in 7 starter.  Again, the expressive individuals will be saddened by the lack of expressiveness.  But how many people will really feel that obligated and moved to pony up $100+ in order to change their wallpapers/themes?  If you’re going to create false limitations in order to force people into upgrading, the 3-app limit at least made more sense.  That is a huge limitation that will affect many.  The new limit – meh?  Who cares?  Do you?

BerryWeather for Blackberry [Review]

berryweather_quick-4day-1

Blackberry users who enjoy a “deeper-than-average” weather forecast on their addictive devices will find that BerryWeather, while not perfect, brings a lot to the table. Is it enough to part with $10 of your hard earned money? If you can live without a dedicated radar and a few inconsistencies between the in-app temperature/condition current forecast and the homescreen icon’s display of temp/forecast, you’re already winning half the battle. The second half deals more with how deep your love for eye candy is as well as your affinity for weather info such as temperature, dewpoint, windspeed, and more, then BerryWeather is just the weather program for you. Overall, I give BerryWeather a 4.5/5 stars as the lack of radar keeps this BB Weather app from taking the “perfect” score.

Get social on your Berry with Pinwall

**Update: All free licenses have been distributed.

Social butterflies and Blackberry addicts can now get it on digital speaking with a new Blackberry centric social networking site/app that goes by the name of Pinwall.  It comes off to me as sort of a souped up Blackberry messenger/facebook online mash-up.  So far I’ve been messing around with it for an hour or so and I like what I see.  Though, it isn’t yet quite perfect.
