The much requested, sought after, and now on again off again Android 1.5 update, a.k.a., “Cupcake” was finally officially announced and released (albiet staggered for U.S. users) several weeks ago. However this developing tango is seemingly turning out to be a major drag. Why the long face? T-Mobile appears to have a case of Indian Givers syndrome. The uh-oh details are just around the corner…
According to a post on a T-Mobile support forum, it appears as if T-Mobile got a little antsy with the unveiling and ungodly delayed release of Cupcake. Regardless, they are apparently suspending the Cupcake rick rollout until June for reasons unknown. Adding more confusion and speculative informaiton (or lack thereof) to the mix is the fact that that very same forum post detailing the delayed rollout has now been “officially” deleted. So are they currently rolling out Android 1.5? Or are they still optimizing the now aging sweetness that we have been craving for so long? It’s hard to say. Below is a copy of the now KIA post:
G1 community,
We’d like to provide an update on the rollout of Android 1.5 for T-Mobile G1 customers.
We are working diligently to get Android 1.5 out as soon as possible, while aiming to ensure a consistent, positive experience for our customers. We’re finalizing the build this week to ensure optimal functionality and smooth delivery. Therefore, the rollout schedule has been reset by approximately a week, and we expect all G1 customers will have the update by early June.Your device will notify you when the update is available. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
If it does in fact turn out to be true, even though it’s only a small delay, it is still a slap in the face to people who have been patiently waiting for the legitimate release for some time now. Heck, Donut/2.0 might be ready by the time TMO gets around to releasing a “fully optimized” build. Sheesh.
