Twitter’s success and popularity are hard to deny and escape. It seems the world, well, the U.S. at least is entranced by this once tiny micro-blogging service that has in a very short amount of time exploaded into a national phenomenon. Twitter is chaning the way we speak so much so in the future people might even start speaking like tweets in public. Twitter has consumed so much media attention and garned so much press, it is almost hard to think of how we ever lived without Twitter. But what if Twitter was around in a more “analog” form during an older time period, perhaps the 60’s and 70’s. What would Tweets look like then? Behold the “Tweet Shirts” (compliments of Threadless w/ phrase coined by Gear Log). What are Tweet Shirts and what can we Tweet to the outside world with our shirts?

Perhaps the coolest thing about Tweet Shirts is that you can actually nominate your own tweets, or tweets from your friends and followers. Twitter users will vote on the Tweets to be used with two Tweet Shirts per week being printed. One of the perks of having your Tweet selected for a Tweet Shirt comes by way of freebies compliments of Threadless. The freebies include:

  • Selected Tweets will bring there Tweeters a $500 reward: ($360 in cash and a $140 Threadless gift certificate)
  • The first nominee of selected Tweet Shirt selections will also receive a reward of $140: ($100 cash and a $40 Threadless gift certificate)

In order to get the analog Twitter ball rolling and the public social networking street scene going, Threadless has already selected four tweets and made them readily available into Tweet Shirts. The initial four featured tweets are:

Those are some good starts to what I see being a huge market. Not only could you put philisophical and thought provoking tweets on your chest ushering in a new way of thinking and teaching to countless passerbys, you could also put complete nonsense on yourself to lighten stressful public meetings or moods. Such humerous tweets as: “Help”, “Talk Tweeter to me”, “Im in love with a Twitter’er”, Tweet if you love Jesus”, “Life, Libery, and the pursuit of 140 or less communication”. Again I must apologize for my pathetic attempts to get a laugh.

I for one could easily have weeks upon weeks of wardrobes filled with simple Tweet Shirts. How about you? The fact that they’re giving away prizes to selected winners is sweet deal to boot. If you’re ready to start the filling of your closet or drawer with Tweet Shirts, whip out the $18 required and twitter.threadless.com.
