HTC Lancaster bringing Android goodness to Big Blue

AT&T users who have been looking over the fence to their GSM brethren have something to look forward to as this find Sunday afternoon has brought with it a rather nice surprise.  The HTC Lancaster so far is rumored to coming to Big Blue sometime later this summer/early fall with under the hood goodies such as triband EDGE + 850 / 1900MHz HSPA, A-GPS, a 3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, microSD support, and a slide-out qwerty keyboard to round out the initial first round of basic specs.  I for one really like the look of the phone and how the slide-out qwerty doesn’t have the goofy stylying and offset nature that the G1 has.  One sad part however is that AT&T seemingly wants to put their branding and in-house apps all over this thing meaning the “openess” of Android may be taking a backseat.  It kind of defeats the purpose to have an open and free handset that gets stuffed chock full of locked, overpriced/under performing apps doesn’t it?  Oh well, only time will tell if AT&T destroys their first Android handset.
