If you’re a Zune owner who isn’t looking forward to the now imminent and highly suspected update to come to the Zune line of players as it means you now get to pay to “upgrade” to the latest and greatest, rumors coming from Zune Scene paint a picture of update happiness. As the picture above shows, the discounts are by no means petty change and are actually a pretty sweet deal. I for one hope that Microsoft can in fact make something like these rumored price discounts materialize as it would be a much needed assurance to current users that Microsoft does in fact care. But is it enough?
While this might keep Zune owners from jumping ship to the Apple camp, will the price changes (as well as some of the many new features being tossed around in rumors) be enough to win over new Zune users? Speaking of rumored features, a web browser and other internet related goodies have been the latest talk of the town. But is it too little too late in regards to saving the Zune? While these features on a portable media player were earth shattering a few short years ago, now they are quickly becoming common place. What will Microsoft do with the Zune to make it stand out from the crowd and the overly saturated portable media player market? Only time will tell.
While I liked my Zune and still listen to it occasionally, for ease of use purposes I find my iPod Touch taking the majority of my time. However, I would sure love to give some of Sony’s newest a listen as the sound quality is amazing in which the iPod and even the Zune can’t hold a candle to. Ahhh…the choices.
