Social butterflies rejoice. Facebook 1.6 is rumored to be in the pipeline for a May 28th release – 5pm to be exact. Facebook is no doubt a popular social networking service. Combined with the Blackberry’s messaging powerhouse abilities means Facebook + Blackberry = a winning combination. The update feature list looks pretty decent for the minor number change. New features coming include:
- Profile and wall viewing – (finally) view and comment on friends’ profiles and wall updates
- Feed support - view and comment on friends status updates and highlights
- Improved photo viewing - viewing and commenting on pictures should now be a tad faster and easier
- Additional language support
The improved profile and wall viewing is a very welcome addition. Once you can fully navigate through your Facebook account all within the app and not have to fire up the BB browser is the day that the Blackberry version of the app reaches perfection. Anyone else agree/disagree?

Apple is known for running a tight ship in regards to iPod/iPhone 3rd party accessories in that not just everyone can pop out a sync cable or home speaker dock. Perhaps one of the more shady practices that Apple has regarding iPod’s and iPhones is the need to purchase special “Apple approved” video out cables in order to output video to your TV. It appears as if Palm, desperate for anything to bring in more customers is sadly losing sight on what really matters – consumer choice and happiness. Why do I make this accusation?

AT&T users who have been looking over the fence to their GSM brethren have something to look forward to as this find Sunday afternoon has brought with it a rather nice surprise. The HTC Lancaster so far is rumored to coming to Big Blue sometime later this summer/early fall with under the hood goodies such as triband EDGE + 850 / 1900MHz HSPA, A-GPS, a 3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, microSD support, and a slide-out qwerty keyboard to round out the initial first round of basic specs. I for one really like the look of the phone and how the slide-out qwerty doesn’t have the goofy stylying and offset nature that the G1 has. One sad part however is that AT&T seemingly wants to put their branding and in-house apps all over this thing meaning the “openess” of Android may be taking a backseat. It kind of defeats the purpose to have an open and free handset that gets stuffed chock full of locked, overpriced/under performing apps doesn’t it? Oh well, only time will tell if AT&T destroys their first Android handset.

Continuing on the current kick of Windows 7 news, the latest not so greatness comes from Paul Thurrott regarding the current 3-app limit on Windows 7 starter. For many, the 3-app limit sounds ridiculous and for for those same many probably is because of the nubmer of things we run at the same time. However, being that 7 Starter is geared towards netbooks that are already much lower powered than laptops or desktops, even running 3 apps or more at once could bring your precious little netbook to a memory puking hault. Because of this, Paul Thurrott claims that in reality, on a netbook anyway, the 3-app limit isn’t that bad. Current rumors however peg Microsoft removing that 3-app limit. *Cheers!* Don’t get too happy though as a new development that is actually worse and not yet confirmed is starting to circulate that a new crutch propping up 7 Starter will be the inability to change your wallpaper. Really!? Talk about a stupid and uneccessary move on Redmond’s part. I hope to god he’s joking. While it isn’t a “deal breaker” per say that you can’t change the background of your Windows 7 Starter powered netbook, choosing such a feature to remove in order to entice you to upgrade doesn’t make much sense. How many people do you know who would shell out more money, possibly in excess of $100 or more just to be able to change their wallpaper…you know…since that is such a hot issue these days.

Regardless if you liked or disliked Windows Vista’s branding and logo, many were hoping that Microsoft would bring a fresh face to Windows 7. So far, through all of the betas and the current RC, the branding and logo hasn’t been any different than Vista. Thankfully MS China has posted what are officially the new branding and logo of Windows 7 in hopes to distance itself from the eternal failure that is Vista. As you can see from above, the new look is a lot more “airy”, open, and overall “happier” feeling that says “I promise to longer bring your PC to it’s knees when opening such graphic intensive apps as paint and notepad.” – unlike Vista’s bloated, dark, and draconian appearance and ways. Like it? Dislike it? Come inside for some more shots (courtesy of MS China) of the new doo in action and leave your take in the comment box below!
