Mercury On-The-Go Pro brings speed and high capacity to mobile storage market…leaves power cable at home

Traditional spinning hard drives have been seeing increasingly larger storage capactities available in phsyical designs that are phsyically decreasing. Coupled with the growth/shrinkage is also the substantial reduction in price. I remember that as little as 1-2 years ago, a poratable hard drive in the 250GB range was upwards of $250. Now you can get the same capacity and phsyical size for much less, try around $100. Portable size is great, however one problem arises, the speeds at which most of these powertable drives operate – 5400 RPM’s. That is where OWC’s Mercury On-The-Go Pro picks up the ball and runs.

Air Trekkers: Run like cheetah, jump like a kangaroo

While the human body has some pretty unique traits and characteristics, though, since we’ve lived with them for millions of years the “new car effect” has worn off and we are often left dreaming of other species’ traits – such as flying, running faster, and jumping higher. Shown at the 2008 Olympics, Air Trekkers are looking to make living the life of a human being on planet earth a little more enjoyable. How so? With Air Trekkers, the wearer can now run up to 20mph and jump up to 10ft in the air! I definitely wouldn’t mind picking up a couple pairs if it weren’t for the $269-$389 price tag that also came along with them. If you’re going to spend upwards of $100 on stilts, you might as well go all the way and get the top-o-the-line “Extreme” model that features all aluminum construction, extra wide velcro cuffs, higher quality bindings and foot straps, as well as replaceable foot pads. As you can see, these are no cheap toy. Are you ready to traverse the earth like no other?

Verizon cares more about money…less about trivial things such as life

bad-cs

Stories of horrendous acts of stupidity and shame emitting from various tech support/cs departments across the land are by no means an uncommon thing. It even seems at times as if a degree in stupid is actually needed to be a tech/cs rep. (I know not all reps are stupid…I’m merely highlighting a story…take it easy). Today’s batch of incompetence comes to us by way of Verizon. Apparently a 62 year old man from Carrollton, OH in the midst of a mental breakdown decided it was time to end it all and fled his house with a bottle of pills. Naturally the police were called in and went about trying to track the man by following his cellphone. Unfortunately, the man’s phone was turned off due to an unpaid $20 bill. Pleading and begging by the police were no match against the particular Verizon rep that was called as they had different standards as well as a big empty air space taking up residence in their heads. The rep was so set on getting the $20 bill that they refused to turn on the mans phone for even a few minutes until someone paid the $20 bill. No thanks to Verizon, the police did eventually find the man still alive though taking one heck of a nap.

So what does this teach you kiddies? If you want to track someone in a life or death situation, it’s best to have a carrier other than Verizon as your service provider.

Being a pirate and a poor swimmer now not so bad – Bulletproof Lifejacket ensues

  • May 27, 2009 9:08 am

bulletproof_lifejacket
There are some occupations in the world that are less than ideal. Occupations that normal people would abstain from as it is too costly, dangerous, dirty, boring, etc. Being a pirate…(not a digital pirate) a real shoot-’um-up-give-me-your-money pirate carries some inherent risks that the normal water going individual might not encounter, say bullets and other projectiles being hurdled towards your body. Also to consider, being out on the open ocean for extended periods of time warrants that the water dwelling foe have at least a basic set of swimming skills as quickly leaving an area and “overboard moments” are abundant. So what do you do if you happen to be a pirate who also has a weak set of swimming skills? Buy a bulletproof lifejacket, that’s what. Never again worry about drowning or taking a cold, fast moving chunk of metal to the heart again as the Bulletproof Lifejacket (Armour Float Ballistic Vest if you want to get technical) has got your covered – literally. In case you’re wondering, the vest is certified up to NIJ Level IIIA. If you are worried about quality, you shouldn’t, as the Underwriters Laboratory-certified PFD is approved by the US Coast Guard. Besides the obvious protection from projectiles, there are a plethora of pockets and straps to stash all your adventurous gear. So…how many will you be purchasing?
