Palm lets go of 50,000 Pres on opening weekend?

Consider this rumor and speculation until Sprint, Palm, or some other reliable source cares to divulge further on the matter. The smartphone release of the weekend, the Palm Pre has been reported to have hit the 50,000 unit sold mark. Again, the numbers have not yet been confirmed. Even though it is roughly a third of the iPhone’s opening weekend sales, 50,000+ units in weekend time span is no small feet. Maybe if the didn’t have that “shortage” there would have been some more Pre’s for the peeps? Success or failure?
