Why oh why can’t these concepts be more real right now and not ten years into the future. Granted, this concept has a bit more of a chance than some of the crazier things we’ve covered here. The concept in question is the Floating Garden Freshwater Aquarium. What is really unique and sets this aquarium apart from all other aquariums is the fact that it doesn’t use any type of artificial filtration system meaning less plastics and other chemical compounds get released into the ground when lil flipper croaks and his aquarium becomes nice monument in some landfill. Morbid, maybe. Honest, you bet. Designed by Benjamin Graindorge and Duende Studio, the process that these masterminds have come up with that allows this aquarim to filter out nitrates without a filter uses a floating mass of vegetation, river sand, and bacteria to get the dirty deeds done. Once filtered, the so clean and so fresh water is passed back to mini flipper so that he can contine swimming in endless circles inside of his wee little tank. According to Cool Hunting, plans are in place to put this green work of art and science into production come 2010. Think of the fishes, think of the planet.
