Blackberry Onyx is really a Blackberry Bold 9020(?)

Get out your rumor boards folks, this one is full of speculation and uncertainty.  It is being reported that the latest OS versions being pumped out for Blackberry Onyx devices are starting to appear with some actual model name tagging – in the case of the Onyx: 9020.  How hold on a second, 90xx means that it is in the Bold family…right?  What’s weird is that the claimed “9020″ actually looks more like the 96xx series of devices.  Stumped?  Me too!  Going further, one could (and already have) speculate that the Onyx is really a Bold 9020.  Could the Blackberry Onyx really be another version of the Bold?  If so it strikes me as odd as there isn’t really any big difference between the two save for the Bold’s slightly larger screen and the Onyx’s higher internal RAM.  What, if any other goodies is RIM hiding or planning for the Onyx?

As far as release and pricing, *laughter*, ya, it’s way too early for that yet.  However, it is being rumored that mass production was pushed back to September meaning a public release could very well happen before the trees go up ’round Christmas time.  Sweet indeed.  Also pertaining to the Onyx, it appears that the optical trackpad won’t be making an appearance as RIM is considering a “downgrade” if you will for lower end Blackberrys.  Not to mention, they are working on several other input methods for future devices.

Rounding out the Blackberry rumors for the day centers around a new code name that is floating around Blackberry Underground land: “Nautilus”.  The current words following closely behind this new Nautilus moniker say that it could be the 3G BlackBerry slider packing beast we’ve been waiting for.  Intrigued?

**Update**  The tables have turned for the optical trackpad…find out here
