It’s that time again folks, time to get out your trust salt shaker and place one little grain in front of you. Gruber, the brains behind Daring Fireball, has revealed some pretty interesting if not disappointing information concerning AT&T and the drama laced iPhoen tethering plans. Before we get to the real meat of the story, lets first look at MMS. According to Mr. Gruber, MMS for iPhone’s and AT&T unity will start getting all lovey dovey in mid-July — not late summer like previously mentioned. And so we get to the issue of tethering. Oh tethering….
Tethering on the other hand doesn’t have a date yet, however a price is starting to emerge and depending on how it is used, isn’t too pretty. $55. That is what is rumored to be AT&T’s entrance fee into the tethering realm. Now, whether it is $55 in addition to the $30 unlimited limited iPhone plan or $55 all together is not yet known. If the former is true, $85 for capped data and tethering is outright theft, at which point I will find every and any possible way to go around their over priced and under funded network. Adding insult to injury, many countries’ iPhone tethering plans are much cheaper or even included with the data plan. Perhaps the most telling tale of AT&T’s blatant rip-off pricing can be seen when looking at iPhone data/tethering plans from Finland, Norway, and Sweden where unlimited iPhone data runs $20/month with thethering thrown in. They put the rest of the world to shame.
So how do you feel about this? Again, this pricing is completely inside the rumor closet for now so don’t get too angry…yet. But what if it does in fact turn out to be true? Will you say the hell with it and take matters into your own hands like many iPhone users have had to do time and time again? Or will you pray to whoever it is that your pray to for a new iPhone carrier in the U.S.? Voice out below.
