When your morbid love for all things skulls crosses from cool to weird, consider picking up the Human Skull Phone. While I joke, this phone is actually pretty sweet. Modeled after a human skull, the phone looks rather real. That is, until the eyes start glowing. Still, the eye glow ads a nice touch to an otherwise mundane object (the landline phone) that is now fading out of existence as more and more people are beginning to rely on their mobile phones for voice based communications. The price isn’t bad on this one – $25, meaning even the more frugal can get in on the geeky gadget life. You in?

I can see it now…people running in the streets, arms in the air, clothes on the ground: mass pandemonium. The Palm Pre was one of the most anticipated gadgets of the year. While the sales numbers are no where near what Apple attains with each successive iPhone launch, the Pre is none the less a great phone with a few glaring drawbacks. Probably the most glaring is the lack of native 3rd party apps. One would think that after the massive amounts of criticism and backlash from the 1st Gen iPhone’s lack of native apps that every handset maker from here on out would incorporate one at launch. Apparently Palm thinks different as Pre users will have to wait until later this year, (that is if you haven’t rooted into your phone and taken matters into your own hands). However, the open source community cares for the individual geeks more than the manufacturers do. Specifically, xorg, simplyflipflops, and Shaya Potter can be credited for making available on the Palm Pre the ability to run native 3rd party programs without having to root into your phone. Plain english: You can install 3rd party apps on your stock Pre! Woo Hoo! Right? Wrong!

While the iPhone has one of the most highly regarded and copied UI’s on any mobile device, many users who don’t exactly have their own set of eagle eyes can often have trouble with the iPhone’s UI as it currently is. Thankfully Apple has responded and though tucked away in some settings menu, the inverted colors mode is there for the less than ocular perfect individuals. Strangely enough however is the fact that this completely software based feature is locked out of all iDevices except the iPhone 3GS meaning that if your eyes are crappy, your wallet is going to have to forfeit some inner treasures. So how do you get the inverted colors option enabled? Go to settings -> Accessibility and enable the inverted colors option. Going further, a three finger double-tap will allow you to zoom in to any area of the screen at any time further aiding the visual inept. Finally, you can have the iPhone 3GS speak text back to you. Now if you have a visual and hearing problem, you need more help than the iPhone can give you sadly. Still, it’s nice to see Apple catering to various markets with different disabilities. Give it a try for yourself. While I personally think it looks god awful, I guess it’s better than not being able to see the screen enough to navigate at all. Right? To my healthy eyes, the normal UI color scheme looks much easier to read than the inverted colors mode. But then again, this isn’t for us normal eyed people is it? Step on in for a few more pics of the inverted goodness.

Depending on how you view the RRoD, as well as if you’ve personally had the misfortune of meeting them, the RRoD coasters may or may not be your thing. For some of you who have met the RRoD, (some of you more than once…*raises hand*), you’re all too familiar with the vast amounts of waiting that it entitles to get your gaming beast serviced, missing out on countless hours of gaming enjoyment. On the other side of the coin, if you have somehow managed to escape the wrath that Microsoft hath wrought unscathed, the RRoD may be nothing more than a joke, a mere figment of someone else’s imagination. If you are that type who can look at the bigger picture and see the humor and “coolness” in everything, the RRoD Coasters are just for you. Fire up your hot glue gun and bust out the “how-to-bead” arts and crafts books and whip yourself up some RRoD Coasters the whole family can enjoy. Super!

Whether or not you’ve ever heard of Moby, a musician that hasn’t enjoyed much spotlight time lately, his fight for consumer rights is a noble one to say the least. It all started several years ago when the RIAA started their onslaught of lawsuits against various individuals. Moby wasn’t happy when he found out the RIAA was suing people for downloading his songs, regardless of legality. Since those early days, the RIAA has only painted itself a darker picture that is impossible to clean. Because of the unconstitutionally large fine for Jamie Thomas (ah em…$1.92 million to be exact…or $80,000/song) Moby is calling for the RIAA to be disbanded (I would wager beaten and flogged personally), which is sadly, a rare stance for musicians and artists today. So what exactly did he have to say?

Android users tired of the G1′s off-center and less than visually appealing hardware can sit up and get excited as T-Mobile has officially come clean with their latest Android handset, the T-Mobile myTouch 3G. While the OS is the same as the G1 (Cupcake 1.5), the hardware is a nice boost making an upgrade worthwhile. Gone is the physical keyboard and clunky “big chin” that stuck out on the first model. The new handset features a much more slimming and sleeker appearance which ultimately means a much nice feel in your hand. So just how much does the G2/myTouch 3G bring to the open source table? Step inside for the full spec sheet to feast your eyes upon.
