Say you want to save a tad bit of water in your home, what do you do?  You could of course cut back on showers, dishes, watering the yard, etc.  But what about your washing machine.  Many people often overlook this in-house water-sucker as it is a machine that is often buried deep inside one’s home, far from ear and eye – almost forgotten.  It is no secret that washing machines, even today’s highly efficient models consume large amounts of water.  Gaining more mainstream attention in recent times, low water and waterless washing machines on the other hand offer little to no watter consumption.  So where are they?

Students using gadgets to maximize their cheating potential

phone-cheating

It is official: Cellphones and internet usage have totally and completely corrupted the youth of our generation.  A poll commissioned by Common Sense Media and conducted by Benenson Strategy Group to study cellphone and internet usage by teens in relation to school and homework shows just how corrupt they have really become.  Now I assumed that the cheating with use of internet and cellphones would be evident but not anywhere near to the degree that teens admitted to.

Over 1/3 of students polled, (total polled was 2,015) said they had cheated at least once with a cellphone at school.  Over 2/3′s (that’s more then half!) said they knew of others cheating at school.  Downloading papers or work off the internet came in at 52% of students polled.

While I knew cheating occurred at school, these numbers are an eye opener for myself.  How about you guys?  You surprised by how often cheating occurred?  Or did you think the numbers would would higher?  Sound off below.

National Geographic and Cellular Abroad bring you the dual-SIM “Duet”

NGEO-phone

While dual-SIM phones are nothing new, their adoption into the main market is rather slow with a small userbase. Most people either don’t have the need nor see one for having the ability to have two phone numbers tied to a single phone. For many, carrying two devices is more to their liking. Whatever, to each his own. The latest foray into the dual-SIM world comes by way of a partnership between Cellular Abroad and National Geographic. The fruits of their labor, titled “Duet”, supports two SIM cards, ships unlocked, and will work out of the box in 185 countries. Planning any globe trotting adventures anytime soon that require you to use more than one mobile number? $179 and a friendly transaction with Amazon are all that stand in your way.

Laptop Cooler desk the swiss army knife of desks – kinda

  • June 18, 2009 10:02 am

laptop-cooler-desk

Using the word “swiss army” before “of desks” may be a bit strong as it doesn’t really have that many features or functions, but still, it is lightyears ahead of your standard laptop desk.  The cool part about the “Chiller Desk” (my coined name) is that it features a built-in USB powered laptop cooler, a mouse pad (who needs those), and a cup holder for those of you who just can’t go without a drink.  For conveniences sake, the Chiller desk folds flat so that when you’re not using it, the desk is outta sight, outta mind.  You might want to cool you jets just a tad before whipping out your credit card — that is unless you’re a resident of Japana.  It’s true, these little mobile wonders are a Japan only item for the time being.  Time to make a new friend, isn’t it?

Stick it to the man – Enable MMS on AT&T for U.S. users right now!

  • June 18, 2009 9:28 am

man-stick

If you hate the fact that AT&T is the sole reason that iPhone OS 3.0 is not going to be everything it could be at launch, take matters into your own hands and give AT&T the cold, hard, digital shoulder.  Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a master programmer or dive into system files.  All you need is a spare “dummy” AT&T phone.  With that phone do the following:

u can enable ur MMS settings… just do this….
-take sim out of iphone
-place into old ATT phone w/ MMS capabilities
-make a call or send a message
-check ATT site and see if phone changed
-go to https://mymedianet.wireless.att.com/
-with sim still in decoy phone register number on the website
-enter 4 digit passcode in decoy phone
-take sim out and put back into iphone
VIOLA~~~~~~~

So now we have the MMS open and ready as well as tethering.  While the MMS is less harmless than the tethering hack, I’m sure by this point you could care less.  Right?  Stick it to the man!

Tether iPhone 3.0 for free – jailbreak NOT required

  • June 18, 2009 7:04 am

3.0-tethering

When consumers have to take fair use matters into their own hands, things can often get complicated and messy.  Much hoop jumping and settings changes are often required leaving the goal being sought one for only the more tech literate.  In regards to tethering iPhone OS 3.0, especially in places where there isn’t any support at all, let alone a paid solution, users now have a quick and free option.  Instead of the older methods that have beena round for awhile that involve some file management and manipulation, this latest method involves browsing to “help.benm.at” on your iPhone browser, downloading a file (which edits your carrier file(s)), and then simply turning on tethering in the settings menu.  Obviously, theres a boat load full of problems that could go wrong ranging from lost data to being disconnected from your carrier if they found out.  Of course, a carrier that disconnects your from using a different method of downloading data on an “unlimited” network doesn’t deserve your money in the first place.  Another thing to think about — there are some reports saying this file editing disables MMS and VisualVoicemail.  A small price to pay for mobile tethering freedom.  You down?
