Take this as nothing more than rumor for the time being. The low end, home video market could soon be getting a new competitor that will bring quite the punch. What could this wonder gadget be that will leave video camera manufacturers afraid to venture outside? Video iPods. A Crunch Gear source is claiming that Apple has ordered up a massive amount of camera modules that they include in iPhones. The modules themselves cost around $10 USD. Why would Apple want a massive amount of said product. Yup…that’s right…video iPods. While iPods have been rumored to be getting camera/video support for several generations now, the inclusion of said capability into Apple’s now cooled off gadget of last year will reinvigorate slowing sales and could even possibly land a crushing blow to the lower end video camera market. Why spend $300-$600 on a stand alone video camera when you could get an iPod Touch that can do the same thing, allows basic video editing, and comes with all of the other features of iPods that we have come to love? Yup, if this rumor materializes into something more…expect the video camera market to get a lot more innovative a lot more quickly.

**Update**Pictures of reported iPod Touch 3rd Generation cases are showing up showing camera holes. Though, the differences in placement are making me doubt these as legit. Still, we know it’s coming sooner or later.
