Nokia denies Android Rumors

As is customary in the corporate world, Nokia has come forth finally relinquished a smattering of words and punctuation in regards to the latest, hottest Nokia rumor going around — the Nokia/Android team up. According to Nokia: “It ain’t happenin’ folks” (loosely paraphrased). Of course, Sony is perhaps the greatest deny machine whom repeatedly throughout history has denied rumor after rumor only to have a fairly good amount materialize. So, take these denials with a grain of salt for now.

A company spokesman went on to say that “everyone knows that Symbian is their preferred platform for advanced mobile devices”. Now, not to rain on anyone’s parade, but I don’t see Symbian as that “advanced” anymore. Sure, maybe 4 years ago when their market share was much bigger and they were one of the very few, but now they have to compete against two very compelling, very advanced players, Android and Apple, with a third equally strong contender, BlackBerry. What Symbian currently has is a bunch of hardware devices with some old software and a whole lot of ground to make up. I’m sure there is many out there who want to debate this issue. So, debate away.
