Vacuum Tube Chess Board is electrifying…many tears to be shed over spilled milk

Taking the term quite literally, this Vacuum Tube Chess Board, titled “Tesla” and designed by Paul Fryer is in all reality very electrifying. Why? The vacuum tubes you see standing in for actual chess pieces are in fact real vacuum tubes. In order to get that wondrous glow, Mr. Fryer fitted the board with electric “plugs” in each slot so that the tubes can draw power from said ports and glow a calming yet trippy cool glow. While this is way out of my price range (as the designer only made 7 total last year), looking at it in pictures and lusting daily is good enough for me. Are custom boards such as the Tesla something that appeals to hardcore chess players? Or do you prefer your standard flat board and wooden pieces? Just remember, this is all fun and games…and then someone knocks over a drink onto the board. I hope your life insurance is up to snuff.
