Speeding is perhaps one of the most frequently broken laws. So many of us do it without even thinking about it. Everyone from that fresh of the farm 16 year old to the ready to call it a day 95 year old have at some point sped. There are several handy iPhone apps that alert users to speed traps as to keep them focused on their speed (at least for that stretch of road). The Washington DC Police Chief has gone on the record calling users of said apps “cowardly” and that they are circumventing law enforcement laws that “save lives”.
Now, does he have any proof of that “saves lives” claim? No. People who routinely make such claims never do. Further proving the fact that said cameras are nothing but grabs at more money comes to light as many cities have been outlawing red light/speed cameras. Don’t fool yourselves police chiefs of the world, red light/speed cameras are there soley for money.
What’s your take? Do you use speed trap avoidance apps? Do you think it’s cowardly?
