Giant Gummi Bear LED lamps to rescue world from recession 1 overpriced bear at at time?

gummi-lights

If you think about a stereotypical overpriced novelty gift, what comes to your mind? For some it is some kind of wacky flash drive. For others it is a mash up of one or more gadgets into some uber gadget. Still for others, a giant gummi bear LED lamp may come to mind. Well folks, if you think like the latter, today is your day. The Giant Gummi Bear LED lamp is just what it sounds like, 7″ of rubber molded into the shape of a bear with an LED crammed down its throat illuminating your dark little world. Instead of traditional earth killing batteries, the Gummi Lamp uses rechargeable Lithium-ion batteries for a more eco-friendly footprint. A couple hours of charging and you’re good to go for up to 20 hours of LED/Bear provided lighting happiness. Now, try to quell the little kid in you from taking a nibble as this isn’t a real giant gummi. Somehow I don’t think processed rubber is going to taste very well. If you can get over the un-edibleness, you may want to prepare for the next obstacle: price. These little glowing bears of joy will set you back a ridiculous $125 per bear. But, you can get a knock out deal of all five for $500. Sweet! Who just lost interest? While these LED lamps are really cool, $125 just seems a bit too expensive…don’t you think?

Run for the hills, hoard water, slaughter sheep: Windows 95 running on an iPhone

95-iphone

Remember waaaay back in the day when GUI’s were “visually appealing” with such features as simple drop shadows, 2D graphics, and simple blue/gray color schemes? That was of course back in the Windows 95 era. Now we have displays and GUI’s that display millions of colors, complex 3D effects, transparencies, and other countless visual candies that make our everyday lives more fun to look at. Who in their right mind would want to bring the old and antiquated look of Windows 95 back…much less install it on one of the hottest gadgets currently available? Nerds, that’s who. Several of them banded together and using nothing but a Bochs Emulator and Windows 95 image have successfully installed Windows95 on an unsuspecting iPhone — poor little guy…didn’t even see it coming. The video at NoWhereElse shows all of the decade old glory showing its wrinkled face all over the crisp iPhone glass. While it is sorta cool to actually get Win95 up and running on the iPhone, it is by no means that functional, instead, it’s more of a “look wh at I can do” kind of thing.

Some may celebrate the feat of geekiness unfolding in front of their eyes while others will cry that this seemingly dead piece of technology is coming back from the grave. Which one are you?

*Update* Didn’t realize it or notice before, but this little gem of unholy matrimony takes an upwards of 5+ minutes just to boot at which point it’s still useless. Ouch!

LG App Store announced. 2,000 app available by end of year.

lg-app-store

The year 2009 is definitely the year of the app store. While Apple’s little gem debuted now slightly over a year ago, it seems as if the whole world and even a stray planet or two has to have their own app store. While the bigger names run by Apple, Android/Google, RIM, and Nokia take up the majority of the media spotlight, they aren’t the only players in town. LG takes the crowned “new kid on the block” status as they officially took the wraps off of their LG Application Store. While the LG App Store will only be available at launch in Asia, LG has stated that by years end they are aiming to reach 24 different countries around the world, bringing them over 2,000 applications to customize their devices and entertain their lives. There will be two methods of installing applications.

  1. Go to: www.lgapplication.com and download apps onto your computer and then transfer them over to your phone.
  2. Access the app store via your LG phone

From the pictures and a few minutes online, the LG App Store definitely has some visual appeal. Only time will tell if customers are sold.

TPExpert: A classy split screen style theme for the masses

TPXpertGlava

Hedone Design is back with another eye buster: TPXpert. The latest theme to come from the theming powerhouse is a sweet today plus-esque theme for all newer BlackBerry models. Some may not like the split screen style themes, but I find that if designed and executed correctly can actually be pretty functional and cool. I like on TPXpert how when you slide to the right for the calendar, the box on the right fills up with calendar entries. That is just one of the subtle touches that really make this theme stand out as a premium theme. If you are the Berry user who likes the choice to choose between many different icons on your homescreen in a split screen style, TPExpert is just the theme for you. A trip to the Hedone Design Store and a farewell to $6.99 of pocket change are the only requirements. Gallery inside showing off the visual nirvana.

Stap Man stapler brings nostalgiac gaming to your desk

stap-man

If you’re looking for ways to make your office more nerdy and geeky but want to keep it on the downlow either because you’re embarrassed or you simply can’t be too flashy at work, the Stap Man Stapler is your thing. Featuring a design that obviously looks very familiar to an old classic gaming creature, Pac-man, this stapler manages to bring a subtle level of geekiness to your workspace. Why is it in black as opposed to the more widely known original yellow Pac-man color? More than likely the color change is to avoid a lawsuit. Though it’s nothing that a little personal customization via spray paint couldn’t fix. Still, even a darker Pac-man gets us excited. You can pick up your Stap Man Stapler from Panik Design for around $26 USD.

Taser pistorl: Old. XREP (Extended Range Electric Projectile)/Shotgun: Now we’re talkin’!

  • July 13, 2009 6:33 am

taser-shock-shotgun

Tasers as of late have become quite popular as they allow law enforcement officers or mere mortals subdue an attacker or criminal without inducing lethal harm (usually). But, those little handheld/handgun looking models are just so outdated and weak. Do you really want to get the message across to the baddies and improve your chances of hitting your target with less danger to yourself? Taser International would love to show you their new hotness, the XREP projectile. The XREP’s claim to fame is first off the fact that it is an electric shock cartridge. The second more interesting feature is that it fits most standard 12-gauge shotguns and comes with a range of over 100 feet meaning you can now secure the area from further out. Also of interest, Taser, along with Mossberg also have a specially designed shotgun that uses these XREP projectiles. While the gun itself isn’t that mechanically different from a normal shotgun using the XREP projectile, just the look of it brings the thought “Oh Sh**” into the forefront of the mind. Safety issues and field testing haven’t been released by Taser International so it’s unlikely you’ll see any of these on your next episode of cops. Still, they look pretty sweet — that is if you’re not on the receiving end… Another picture right inside.

Final pre-release build of Windows 7 (Build 7600) leaked?

  • July 13, 2009 6:13 am

windows-7-7600

All of you geeks who scrutinize firmware/OS version numbers as if you were some CSI detective on the world’s most high profile will have something new to lust after. Leaked images of a Windows 7 7600 build (string number: 7600.16384.090710-1945) have started circulating the digital landscape. As you can see from the string number, the build wasn’t pushed out that long ago — it’s merely a few days old. The real kicker is that the letters RTM are tagging along for the ride. Such a bond usually indicates that this is in fact the final pre-release build. In other words, it is the actual version that we mere mortals will get for real come October 22nd…hopefully. While Microsoft again hasn’t said anything official regarding this leak, such a large jump from the previous 72xx builds is highly likely to signal what we all suspect: that this is in fact the RTM/final build before launch. Are you convinced? Expect Microsoft to release an official statement regarding this leaked builds legitimacy within the very near future.
