BlackBerry fanatics who were impatiently waiting for images of the ever so popular BlackBerry Onyx 9020 need to sit down, grab their inhalers and get ready. The Onyx has finally been spied without any covers, bearing to all the nice little optical trackpad nestled right smack dab front and center awaiting your poking and prodding fingers. Is it a prototype or early production unit? Can’t say at the moment. All I can say is how soon can we get this?! It is definitely a sexy looking Berry — sexiest yet? (Now if only RIM would completely revolutionize that horse and buggy running atop the drop dead gorgeous hardware…)

The Wii remote: forget about it. PS3 sixaxis controller: no good. Any other accelerometer based remotes: antiquated. If you want to get into the real world of accelerometer based gameplay/action, you really need to start saving around five hundred of those little one dollar bills for something rather cool. The cool thing in question is the Acceleglove, developed by Maryland-based AnthroTronix, this glove comes laced with accelerometers all over every inch. Obviously those developing games or unique control schemes for whatever it is they want to control could unleash untold potential with gloves like these. Considering similar incarnations of gloves in the same genre can run as much as $5,000, I’d take the $500 deal and run. The draw for developers is that you don’t even have to use the included drivers, simply write your own. Connections to earthly computing machines is done via USB. Stocking stuffer anyone?

Perhaps the hottest frontier that is just emerging in the tech world, especially in regards to printers is that of 3D printers. While such crazy things many years ago were nothing more than a dream by the geeky few, printing 3D objects has finally become a reality. Jay Leno, renowned car geek and apparently geeky geek had a certain part on one of his collectible cars break. Unfortunately for him, the part was no longer made in any form anywhere on the planet. Determined to drive that work of art another day, Jay set out on a new mission: making his own part via a 3D printer. All it takes is a NextEngine 3D Scanner scanning objects at 160,00 dots per inch (20 minutes) and a Dimension 3D Printer. With that plastic mold, he then creates the same part out of metal. Techy hugh?! Lucky for those of you who crave to learn more, Popular Mechanics had a little talk with Jay in which he outlines his car repairing, technology aided habits. Spend a few minutes and give the article a read. We are only at the beginning of the 3D printer’s potential. Excited?

Often times, wearing geeky articles of clothing or those with geeky pictures or slogans are more times than not, as the context implies, very geeky. Such things don’t always make you popular with the general public as said garments aren’t always the most fashionable. Calvin Klein would like to charge the perception of geeks into something that everyone likes. Introducing the Calvin Klein USB Sunglasses. Most users will have plenty of room for all of their digital goods via the drives 4GB capacity. When the transferring of files is done, simply plop the glasses back on your noggin and continue on your merry way. I have to admit, the Calvin Klein glasses look pretty darn sweet. Though, with most designer articles of clothing/accessories, the fan club requires a nice entrance fee — in this case $199. Is it too high for reasonable digital storage and a fashionably forward design?

Getting locked into some greedy wireless carrier with shoddy service and even shoddier CS is never a fun way to spend 2-3 years of your life. It’s basically like another form of prison. So what is the tech inclined individual such as yourself supposed to do? Once again, taking matters into your own hands is the best answer. Just how do you accomplish said task? Simple, with a nifty comic book titled: “Citizen Engineer: SIM Card Hacking” published by Adafruit Industries. Said book comes with the instructions needed to get the knowledge needed to by pass and hack SIM cards as well as how to make your own. Sweet! What’s even better is if you go ahead and get the $35 option, Adafruit will even throw in a premade SIM reader kit. If you’ve been looking to get into the underground world of SIM hacking/creation, now is a better time more than ever. Happy Hacking!

Futuristic design with sleek contours and big touchable screens leave us simply awe-struck. The latest design from Twaiwan based Tryi Yeh is quite possibly the sleekest and coolest mobile device I’ve gazed upon yet. The all glass front while probably delicate is nothing short of gorgeous. The OLED buttons on the slide out panel is super cool and handy to boot. The only sad part about this phone is that it is still years off. We simply don’t have the technologies to make the battery last as long as the digital bits inside likely require. Taking a short trip into the future is always fun though isn’t it? A couple more pictures await your curious mind right inside.

Speeding is perhaps one of the most frequently broken laws. So many of us do it without even thinking about it. Everyone from that fresh of the farm 16 year old to the ready to call it a day 95 year old have at some point sped. There are several handy iPhone apps that alert users to speed traps as to keep them focused on their speed (at least for that stretch of road). The Washington DC Police Chief has gone on the record calling users of said apps “cowardly” and that they are circumventing law enforcement laws that “save lives”.
Now, does he have any proof of that “saves lives” claim? No. People who routinely make such claims never do. Further proving the fact that said cameras are nothing but grabs at more money comes to light as many cities have been outlawing red light/speed cameras. Don’t fool yourselves police chiefs of the world, red light/speed cameras are there soley for money.
What’s your take? Do you use speed trap avoidance apps? Do you think it’s cowardly?
