BlackBerry Bold getting firmware update. Visual Voicemail, 2G/3G mode toggle ensue.

BlackBerry Bold users rejoice, this afternoon will bring good fortune to you and your beloved piece of Canadian born hardware. RIM announced earlier that an update to the BlackBerry Bold firmware will bring two pretty big updates with it along with the usual performance fixes and other general bug fixes. But we don’t care about those mundane bug fixes. Nooo sir (or mam). We care about the numero uno updates such as Visual Voicemail and 2G/3G mode selection…
The update should be coming this afternoon to AT&T U.S. users (if it hasn’t already dropped yet) and will as just mentioned, bring a new Visual Voicemail interface that will allow BlackBerry Bold users to pick and choose the voicemails you want to listen to as well as which to keep and which to delete. Also of interest to those of you who either live in areas with poor/no 3G reception or for those of you who frequent such areas, a new toggle option for manually selecting 2G/3G networks means better battery life and call/web browsing quality. Sometimes we mere mortals are a tad more intelligent when it comes to finding the best signal to latch on to.
One honorable mention (or curse) comes in the form of new homescreen download icons for MobiTV, Mobile Banking, Tetris, and Scrabble. While some may be overjoyed with the new icons, I see it as more bloat to an already grossly stuffed homescreen.
**In case you didn’t know, AT&T pushes almost a dozen app download icons and AT&T branded junk to your Berry…not including the new fluff. Is it too much?
Upgrading to the new firmware can either be done via wireless update under advanced options or through Desktop Manager. If you have the update already, how’s it going so far?
