Motorola: “AT&T nixed our Android devices”.

Motorola was gearing up for a game changing holiday season fueled by new Android devices on all four major wireless carriers: AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint. Sprint is rumored to be getting the HTC Hero any week now and T-Mobile already has two Android devices with a couple more on the way before years end. Verizon not to be left out is also set to have a pretty awesome Android handset that so far has gone by the name Shules. That leaves AT&T the loner thus far as they don’t currently sell any Android devices nor have they even announced any up and coming devices yet. Thankfully for us, Motorola however has come forward to clear the air. Whether out of malice because AT&T delayed/canceled some of their handsets or for simple public knowledge it doesn’t matter. The news isn’t particularly pleasant…
According to sources close to AT&T and the matter at hand, Big Blue deemed the Android packing, Motorola handsets “too out of date for their tastes”. While it may leave a sour taste in many of your mouths, it might not be all that bad. Now don’t get me wrong, canceled handsets, especially potential Android handsets isn’t a good thing at all, especially if it were of HTC Hero quality. However, if the Motorola handsets that were canceled were anywhere close to resembling the HTC Lancaster, (a recent device that has been rumored to have been canceled), then it’s actually a blessing in disguise as the Lancaster’s specs were pretty underwhelming for Android’s first appearance on America’s most hated reliable talked about network.
Recapping all of the previous words just spoken, Motorola has had several Android devices set to go live on AT&T canceled. According to inside sources, it’s because the phones were already “out of date” with the quickly evolving market. Bad news for Moto.
If Moto did in fact miss the market and is trying to push out old, poorly spec’d and outdated handsets, we could soon be hearing the death toll ringing out for the once great hardware manufacturer.
What do you think? Do they have any fight or relevance left in them?
