There’s nothing like the sign of impending device releases like the first screen capture of a system inventory device list showing the latest and greatest from RIM making its way to market. The two carriers of interest are AT&T and Bell. While new devices can appear up to 3-4 months before their actual scheduled release date, I’d say it’s safe to assume an announcement and release within the next month. CrackBerry users who have been looking for something to upgrade to from their aging beauty Bold now have something to set their sights on. The wait is almost over folks.

Are you unhappy with your iPhone/Apple? Is their totaltarian policies and outright consumer screwing tendancies tugging at your last nerve? Do you feel angry enough to arm yourself and take out your aggressions with brute force metal and gun powerder? The gentlemen below did and uploaded all of his controlled to YouTube for the world to see. Some may cringe at the sight of a relatively (to my eye) mint condition iPhone getting 4 cold slugs to the heart. For others, it is a day to rejoice in the streets. Are you singing…or are you crying? Death to dictatorship!

Often times, when a techie hears the words “Resistive Screen”, they think of old, brick-like Windows Mobile devices from the early 2000′s. In 2007, Apple’s iPhone introduced the mass market to capacitive touchscreens done well and the feature exploded. Fast forward to 2009 and you see new models of phones coming out and being announced weekly. Most of these new devices feature capacitive screens. In general, they are more responsive, finger friendly so theres no need to babysit a stylus, and generally look a tad nicer as well. However, not everyone wants to use their fingers all over the screens. What are those users supposed to do?
Thanks to HTC, hopefully soon they’ll be able to tap away on their capacitive touchscreens with an HTC patented magnetic stylus. You see, the magnetic tip on the stylus produces just enough current (much like a human finger) as it slides across the screen creating more precise movement. So far I haven’t run in to any instances where I thought to myself: “God I wish I had a stylus”. But to each his own. I’m sure there are plenty out there who disagree and again, I can certainly think that there would be certain times when a stylus would help. Plus, I also admit that a stylus does offer better precision for those tiny selections.
Stylus groupies, is this the wind that refills your sails?

With all of the negative publicity AT&T has been receiving the past few….months…there is a small glimmer of hope for the often knocked, rarely praised cellular giant. Their promise to bring more reliable and further reaching 3G coverage by way of the 850MHz band is starting to come to fruition. Starting with downtown Atlanta, Georgia and parts of Fulton, DeKalb, North Fulton, Cobb, Gwinnett, and Fayette counties, users should now experience better indoor 3G coverage as well as better voice and data quality connections. So far, the number cell sites that have been flipped is up to 540 making making for an image that they are infact moving at a brisk clip. They aren’t taking a break however as by the end of 2009, several more cities are scheduled to get the ‘ol switcheroo treatment including but not limited to New York and San Francisco. Are you waking up a tad more pleased with AT&T this morning?

There are big flash drives and then their are big flash drives. The Corsair Flash Voyager GT 128GB flash drive is the latter. Not only does this flash drive have a capacity that will hold more than enough for the general computing population, but it has a fat ass to match. I know what you’re thinking. That a flash drive this large will take weeks to fill due to god awful read/write times. Fear not dear techie as the read/write times aren’t too shabby (they’re a whole lot better than my older 32GB Corsair Flash Voyager): 32MB/s read and 25.6MB/s write. While not anywhere close to higher end SSD’s, the ability to carry roughly 128GB on your keychain is pretty tempting. The only thing that leaves us wanting more is the lack of an official price. Considering how monstrous this drive is and how relatively uncommon still it is for 128GB to be stuffed into something so small, expect a price that isn’t exactly Walmart cheap. Still, being on the bleeding edge of technology has never been cheap has it? Are you emptying out your piggie bank yet?

Forget BOGO. Verizon’s back-to-school sale is now going by the acronym of BOGA. Instead of their usual buy one BlackBerry get a second free, you can now buy one BlackBerry and you can choose not only another BlackBerry, but any other Verizon device, USB modem, mifi, etc. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. While you do have to weed your way through a rebate, the final outcome is still leaving you better off than if you hadn’t come across this deal at all. Seems BlackBerries are becoming an essential back-to-school item huh? Those of you looking to cash in (or out) of this deal need to do so by October 10th at which point the goods will be gone. Who’s ready for some new Berries?
