Wow your friends with a wooden speaker/clock combo

wooden-speakers-clock

If you like mashup gadgets, that is gadgets that try to impress by blending in multiple technologies, the wooden speaker-clock will surely be added to your list of must have gadgets. These wooden speakers look pretty normal to the naked eye, that is until your fire them up and see the digital clock shining through the wood. While it isn’t a particularly hard task to achieve, seeing any kind of light shine through wood causes one to do a double take just because it isn’t that common.

The two models, the Evergreen DN-WSP1802 (two-speaker) and DNWSP1406 (single-speaker) wooden speakers both feature a 3.5mm audio connection giving your universal connectivity with pretty much any device with an audio output. Sadly, these little wonders are only available in Japan for now meaning you’ll have to pay a pretty nice shipping fee — possibly even more than the modest $25 price tag. Gadget love knows no bounds…

OS 5.0 leaked for Bold, Tour, and 8900

old-berry

While Bold users may still be recouping from the excitement the latest AT&T update brought them, the more daredevilish users may be over and done with that already as they’ve likely had that firmware version for weeks now. While AT&T is still messing around with oh so old 4.6 Bold firmware, the real action is in the 5.0 scene. Some brave developer or insider with special access to pre-release BlackBerry OS builds was kind enough to open the door and let loose versions of the 5.0 software for the Bold, Tour, and 8900. Oh joy! I know you’re ready to start the digital exchange so enough talking. Get downloading!

HTC Hero BlackBerry Theme full of glorious, slick, free eye candy

blackberry-hero-theme

Dime-a-dozen BlackBerry themes are all too common these days. While I don’t want to come across as too blunt or cynical, truly unique and professional looking themes take time and skill. Some people are simply better and design than others. EThemes, a BlackBerry theme website and store has put together some truly amazing BlackBerry themes. However, their latest HTC Hero Theme for the Bold, 8900, and 9630 is the best yet. The only drawback I could find is that the icons aren’t fully user customizable, an unfortunate circumstance though grudgingly forgivable given the top notch design.

I completely support paying creative designers their dues when needed as good work costs money. But when a themer goes the extra mile and gives us one of their prized creations from time to time, well, I can’t argue with that. That’s right, this professional and top quality theme is 100% free. Start downloadin’ folks!

BlackBerry Bold users rejoice, this afternoon will bring good fortune to you and your beloved piece of Canadian born hardware. RIM announced earlier that an update to the BlackBerry Bold firmware will bring two pretty big updates with it along with the usual performance fixes and other general bug fixes. But we don’t care about those mundane bug fixes. Nooo sir (or mam). We care about the numero uno updates such as Visual Voicemail and 2G/3G mode selection…

Send texts for free (for real) with Gogii’s TextPlus

text-plus
Free is the universal word for bargain. While the saying “You get what you pay for” is usually true in the sense that free products are often half complete or downright terrible, Text Plus by Gogii is a texters/anorexic wallet owners dream. Since the release of the iPhone and the App Store mania, I have seen countless “free” texting apps pass by my eyes time and time again. Instead of being free, they actually just use coy marketing tactics as you may not have to pay your carrier directly, you often end up paying a third party and get tied in to some separate account — not exactly “free” in the literal sense. Gogii is different from all previous contestants though in that they really are free…

Google Maps adds traffic info to backroads (select cities)

Frequent travelers, especially those that traverse the world by auto can surely appreciate the added help that traffic reports give them. While making your way to your destination, knowing the quickest and least traffic filled route will make your ride more enjoyable not to mention shorter. For some time now, Google Maps has shown traffic info for major highways. However, once you venture outside of downtown, you’re on your own when it comes to traffic info. Sure you can tune the radio to a traffic station, but not every city has such a service nor is the radio constantly available and available for you to customize reports. Building upon their early success with the integrated traffic info on Google Maps for major highways, Google is branching out into the lesser populated areas by now including traffic info for backroads.

Breaking Benjamin: “I Will Not Bow”

  • August 25, 2009 11:04 am

As you all know, I love gadgets and technology. However, one of my other loves is music. This new video from Breaking Benjamin (one of my all time favorite bands) showing off their newest single “I Will Not Bow” off of their upcoming album “Dear Agony” will be the first addition to the new music tab I am now displaying on the sidebar box. For now, music videos will occupy this space, however I have some ideas floating around in my head that will come to light in the near future. Hope you like the new addition!
