Having an all out geek pad or gadget cave is one thing any gadget guru dreams of. But what’s even cooler? How about a complete electronic cavern on wheels? That’s precisely what the 2010 Brabus Mercedes-Benz Viano is — the culmination of every single dream of any gadget lover out there. With included goodies such as:

  • 32″ LCD
  • WiFi
  • Onboard network that connects everything…everything to the TV
  • PS3
  • Dolby Surround Sound
  • External cameras viewable on the TV inside
  • and….a Nespresso machine

Quite the culmination of tech isn’ it? The specs alone and the look of a nice, cave like area to explore all of your inner geek is drool worthy enough. Then to realize it’s all inside of a car is over the top. If the picture above is tempting enough, you’ll definitely want to see the rest inside…

The Word Clock

Clocks have had the same general design and means of telling time for centuries. Sure they’ve progressed technologically from say a sun dial to a digital clock that displays numbers, but the overall concept is the same. Also true, attempts to radically change the way time is displayed such as some clocks which show the time in binary or with some other creative combination of fancy shapes and or characters are often hard to decipher.

The Word Clock however is actually fairly easy to glean the necessary information from. The designer and creator was inspired after seeing a similar clock on an industrial design website and decided to try his own hand at home made geekery. This clock will certainly test your geeky skills as you’re going to have to get your hands dirty. If you don’t have 120 LED’s laying around the house, you might want to start there. Other things to brush up on would be your etching skills, and knowledge of circuit boards and other things geek. Hey, actually being a geek isn’t for the faint of heart.

About that Verizon != Pre thing….*just kidding*

Hey…you can’t always get them right. And this one we apparently did not. Following yesterdays reporting from multiple sources that for reasons unknown, Verizon was going to pass on the Palm Pre are looking to be a bit…well..false. Several respectable sources such as The Street and Deutsche Bank’s Jonathan Goldberg are saying yesterdays scare doesn’t have much weight. Mr. Goldberg in particular stressed that the Verizon/Pre fallout wasnt accurate and that demand is still healthy enough to warrant a 2010 Verizon launch. So all is well Pre hopefuls and Verizon junkies. Live to see another day.

Forgetful? Gordon Bell suggests converting everything to digital…

Often when I’m alone without a wireless signal of some sort or anything else to do, I think long and hard about a multitude of things. One that always captivates me is the human brain. (How I get to these topics I have no idea). Vastly different from a typical hard drive, though in essence the same exact thing — a place to store information. As humans move closer and closer to more realistic robots and humanoids, the ability to store and remember information becomes a hot topic. Have you ever wondered how much the human brain can hold? Gordon Bell, a Microsoft researcher while not exactly aiming for the limit of human memory, is none the less experimenting with a rather commonly discussed human organ in a rather unique way.

Bad: Paid Pre apps delayed. Good: Pre iTunes sync coming back.

  • September 25, 2009 9:33 am

palm-preWell well well. If it isn’t Palm and the Pre in the news again. We love hearing good stories and often dread the “but there’s a bad part” part. It appears the roller coast Palm Pre owners have been on as of late isn’t about to stop anytime soon. First, as not to spoil the fun, and because the best always goes last, we’ll start with the bad.

  • Bad: The Paid Pre apps and webOS update are delayed until a future date — obviously — (next week?). The update will be 1.2.1.
  • And now the good: Possible lawsuits and USB-IF angry eyes be dammed, Palm is focused on iTunes syncing for the Palm Pre as the next update will bring back the controversial feature. The last time it took all of 5 minutes and a new vendor ID to get iTunes syncing up and running again. This time was a bit more involved however: 2-1/2 hours. It’ll be amusing to see how long this keeps going.

**Note to Palm lawyers: Prep yourselves for an upcoming lawsuit.

Palm seems to love the attention this cat and mouse game creates. Too bad that attention can’t be transformed into $$
