Speakers for better or worse haven’t really undergone that much of a transformation over the last 50-100 years save for slight achievements in build quality and integrity. New developments such as the “FleXpeaker by ITRI, a Taiwanese based company, are leading the way to flat, flexible speakers that will bring sound to countless new areas of our lives that were until this point void of any audible enjoyment. The FleXpeakers (pictured above) have a frequency range of 500Hz to 20KHz. Not club quality range mind you but still pretty darn good for a speaker you can bend. The manufacturer claims they “can be bent to a certain point without distorting”. How far is that “point of no return”? Beats me. We won’t know until we handle one. The mere thought of what we can do with flexible speakers not to mention the slew of new places we can put them leaves me simple spell bound.
