Not to steal any thunder from CDMA/Verizon users and their new found Jesus Christ Digital Superstar (aka: The Moto Droid), but the GSM Droid steals my attention in the video above. If you’re not quite sure you want to crawl into bed with Big Red for the next two years of your life, the video above should give you the needed eye candy and motivation to hold out just a little bit longer. Since the Moto Droid passed the FCC — twice — once in Euro-form and a second time several days later with North American 3G frequencies on board, it can’t be that long until we see some GSM loving, out of this world Droid experience no? I’ll give the CDMA flavor a thorough man-handling, but all of my apples are in the GSM basket.
Music streamers and UK dwellers rejoice. If you’re a BlackBerry user who has been scowling in envy at your fellow iPhone toting friends with their fancy pants Spotify iPhone app, take comfort in knowing that your own version is coming soon. Very soon. Early 2010 to be exact if mocoNews is correct. While the Spotify app for iPhone is an awesome app, not everyone wants an iPhone. Let’s also not forget that the BlackBerry version, as well as every other version of Spotify will stream in the background meaning you can *gasp* do other thinks while streaming music. Novel concept I know.
The rumored 2010 release date for a UK BlackBerry Spotify app would coincide rather nicely with a U.S. launch of the service also scheduled for early next year. Such a dual launch on both sides of the pond would make early 2010 a second Christmas if you will. If Christmas isn’t a holiday you celebrate, copy and paste your own in there. It’s all the same. Regardless, BlackBerry users getting access to more media rich apps can only help the brand shrug off that stale corporate image that is so far clinging to the Canadian devices for dear life. Excited?
HTC’s current lack or recognition for Android 1.6 (Donut) has left many HTC users feeling hurt and unloved. Even though Cupcake/1.6 doesn’t bring anything that earth shattering, Android people love their updates. Almost as much as CrackBerry users. So it is understandable that a lack of 1.6 love could cause some problems. Take comfort in knowing that it is for the greater good….
An email between a slightly disgruntled HTC Hero user and an HTC European CSR:
Dear HTC customer,
Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center. We are dedicated to providing you with the best quality service and answering all of your questions and concerns.
The Hero will not be receiving the Android 1.6 upgrade, it will however get the 2.0 one. Do note however that we do not have a confirmed release date for this upgrade, all I can recommend at the moment is that you keep yourself updated by visiting our website regularly as the latest information will be available to view from there.
Best regards,
HTC customer support team

I think I could stomach missing out on some minor updates for the bigger, badder 2.0 perfection that is Android 2.0/Eclair. Don’t you? For now, file this neat carefully handled tidbit into the “rumor” file as HTC has yet to confirm such an announcement. Awaiting a response from HTC themselves. Though I’m not expect too much at this point. An answer confirming this rumor would make for a pleasant surprise…
John McCain: since you have no idea what the internet is nor how to work it, sit down and take note. The image below is how cable/quasi-internet packages will look if you and your we’re-in-the-pockets-of-big-business friends F’ up net neutrality and the internet as a whole, tiered pricing and all — you know, since tiered pricing is everyone’s favorite and “benefits” the economy.
Is this a worst case, end of the world scenario? End of the world – no. Worst case – Yes.
If net neutrality falls and I start seeing this BS below, I’m making my own damn internet. Anyone looking to join a potential startup that’ll offer big returns with massive growth? Call me.
And so it begins…To all of those who thought that Google Navigation either wouldn’t impact the mobile GPS market or would take some time to impact the market, I give you exhibit A above. Traditional GPS makers start to see the cold hard truth. So let’s all ask Garmin: How does it feel to see a billion dollars worth of market cap evaporate since this mornings meeting?
One thing to keep in mind, as @zpower points out, Garmin has several other very large, very profitable divisions. Strictly considering the consumer division however foreshadows to an epic headache for TomTom, Navigon, etc.
This stock slump will probably rebound for the most part within the next couple of days. But it sure is interesting that it took a nosedive so fast and signals that Google just one upped everybody. IntoMobile > @zpower
After some up and down content today, I figured it would be nice to take a break and get in touch with the lighter side of the tech world. While fake Chrome OS scammers and free Google Navigation mobile apps are driving the tech minded few absolutely bonkers, for these next few seconds you and I can hit pause in life and admire these fine creations of modern culinary. I guarantee that if I were anywhere near that box I would totally decimate at least half of those truffles. I’m a chocolate freak! Don’t get in the way of me and a good piece of chocolate. Just sayin’…
That Google Chrome OS just got finished gushing about? Ya it’s fake. Sucks I know. Damn scammers. I’ve already and gone ahead and updated the original post. This is just so it gets to the top of people’s feed lists. Again, it’s a fake. Resist temptation and do not download. You’ve been warned.
Somehow, somewhere, someone thought I knew a thing or two about mobile devices. Take a minute or two to check out Freescale's Smart Mobile Device Pundit 2012. There's some pretty big names on there and some awesome people. Not to worry. I won't judge you if you vote for someone else.
