AT&T getting all suey just because Verizon called out AT&T’s crap network…

Perhaps you’ve seen Verizon’s clever ads recently being run on TV. They feature a rather humorous play on words and AT&T/Apple’s “There’s an app for that” into their own “There’s a map for that”. Looking at the pictures above, we can see the obvious comparison is between AT&T’s 3G network and Verizon’s 3G network. It’s also no surprise that VZW wins hands down with AT&T’s 3G suckiness falling way, way behind. Apparently AT&T has a problem with getting called out and have brought on their team of lawyers to straighten things out. Except, Big Blue is hiding behind the BS guise that Verizon’s “There’s a map for that” ad is misleading in that the blank spaces on the maps could be misunderstood as “dead spots”. Right. From the horses mouth:

In essence, we believe the ads mislead consumers into believing that AT&T doesn’t offer ANY wireless service in the vast majority of the country. In fact, AT&T’s wireless network blankets the US, reaching approximately 296M people. Additionally, our 3G service is available in over 9,600 cities and towns. Verizon’s misleading advertising tactics appear to be a response to AT&T’s strong leadership in smartphones. We have twice the number of smartphone customers… and we’ve beaten them two quarters in a row on net post-paid subscribers. We also had lower churn — a sign that customers are quite happy with the service they receive.

Now, going out on an extremely thin, fragile, baby limb could cause one to maybe believe this for a second. Hopefully the judge overseeing the case has some common sense and tosses this out as we can all see AT&T simply wants the ads off the tubes and out of our minds. AT&T also goes on to say that their older, slower, and completely irrelevant to the add, EDGE network reaches a considerable larger amount of bodies. Again, the commercial is comparing 3G networks, not yesterday’s technologies. Here’s a crazy idea…maybe instead of senselessly wasting money on frivolous lawsuits, AT&T should be investing that money back in to “America’s best worst, most useless network”. Just a thought guys…

I think one of the sections of blank space is in my house, and then there is a blue dot on my front porch!
