Will the loopholes and political red tape consumers have to jump through to do something as simple as copying a music video, concert, or online radio playlist for later use is rather infuriating. …of course, the chance to get one of three free licenses and a 20% off coupon could influence your decision to keep reading as well…
Rapid Solution’s AudialsOne isn’t exactly a single software. It is actually one big mashup of RS Solution’s 3 premium offerings: Tunebite Platinum, Radiotracker Platinum, and Mediaraptor Platinum. Each of these programs is great in their own regard.
- Tunebite: Online media recorder and DRM stripper
- Radiotracker: A massive web radio tracker with over 80 genres, 30,000 online radio stations, and over 70,000 artists.
- Mediaraptor: a quick and easy media tag finder — never again manually enter countless tags as now it’s as simple as a click of a button
They sound pretty tempting right? AudialsOne includes all of those features. So let’s get this shindig on the road, shall we?
Radio
Fancy web radio? If you claim to love music and only listen to terrestrial radio in the car, you may want to reconsider your position. Finding yourself in such a quandary, why not really put your musical love to the test with web radio? Web radio is so much more diverse and personal than terrestrial. I mean any music, any artist, any genre you can think of is this far from your senses. With AudialsOne, accessing the music you so desperately crave is nothing short of amazing.
The first tab seen above is where all web radio chops reside. There are countless seach criteria including but not limited to artist, genre, actual web radio station name, and so on. What’s cool is you can even include Last.fm, imeem, Pandora, and soundclick in your searches by clicking the “social radio” box. Some may prefer to go it alone so having the options is always welcome.
Right within in the radio section at the bottom of the window you’re presented with conversion settings for how you’d like to treat your recordings. You can either record in a way that it cuts out gaps and gives you a more CD like sound or you can choose to record continuously. Either way, creating your own playlists from web radio is drop dead simple.
Being a music junkie myself, I long for complete control over my music and it’s quality. In this sense AudialsOne doesn’t disappoint. There are a plethora of bitrates and formats to choose from. So much so that just about everyone should find something for themselves. Audiophiles will come to appreciate that FLAC is available, though with the audio already compressed to reduce streaming size, it isn’t really that beneficial in this instance. Again, simply having the option is more than welcome.
**I’ll stop for a second and take a small detour and quickly highlight the various profiles that allow you to quickly set the format and bitrates at which your content can be converted to. You can choose from a number of preset options that convert content to iPhone/Xbox/PS3 friendly sizes (many others included), or you can mix and match the audio and video formats independently to get the perfect output.
Ok, back to the features…
Search
The search pane is a separate pane that allows you to start your sonic voyage from a very basic point with one of the criteria mentioned above. How is it different than the individual search boxes on the other panes? It’s much deeper. Looking above you can see that you can really fine tune what you’re looking for more than simple search box could ever hope to achieve. All things considered, the searching features built into the app are extremely deep and robust. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, you need to back away and turn the computer off because you shouldn’t be using one.
Wishlist
Creating an awesome playlist of your media is a way a work of art. It certainly isn’t any fun keeping those works to yourself now is it? Of course not. Whether you created a simple one or two long playlist to get you through those 5 minutes of whatever it is you loathe to the 40 song epic compilation that you spent many days painstakingly piecing together. Playlist sizes big and small are worth of sharing. One of the coolest things about AudialsOne is that you can register for an account online and actually share your playlist creations with others.
Sharing playlists is equally simple. After logging in and searching for a desired playlist (in this case they’re called “wishlists”), clicking on the download button will set the whole process in motion and be taken care of by the software — no intervention needed by you. The wishlist will automatically get downloaded and if you so choose, converted into the appropriate format as designated by your chosen profile.
The sharing ability makes AudialsOne more than just something that you use for yourself. It transforms it into a social tool. A social network of music that engages all types of users from all walks of life and lets them connect via one of life’s greatest gifts — music.
Web
I’m not going to lie, I really like all of the other features of AudialsOne, but one feature stands out as the best at least for me. The “Web” pane is the home to the ultimate audio/video collector. It isn’t necessarily anything within the actual app or pane that makes it so great. Instead, it’s how the program interacts with other programs, specifically your browser.
With the Web pane open and your profile and conversion settings fixed, open your web browser and navigate to any site you can think of with audio and/or video embedded in the page. Inside of the web pane you’ll notice that you’ll see the audio or video that’s on the page pop up inside of AudialsOne with a progress indicator. That’s the app downloading the media content so that you can then convert it or save it for later viewing. The entire web just became yours. Awesome huh!
As with other areas, any web recorded content can be used to create wishlists to share with others in the AudialsOne community. It’s worth mentioning that as with all other media and panes that do any sort of downloading or ripping, on the right side of the app there is an unchanging pane that shows various downloads and conversions. At the bottom you’ll see a couple buttons such as the WMP (Windows Media Player) button which allows you to export said media files to WMP. A burn button which as you can guess allows quick burning of media to disc. Following the WMP and burn buttons are “Mobile” and “Gadget” buttons which when a mobile device is plugged in enable one click conversion and transfer of media to the attached devices.
I really am surprised that even with all of the features and goodies they packed into AudialsOne how fast, efficient, and easy it is to take audio/video from one place, convert it if need be, and put it in another.
Podcasts
Podcasts are enjoyed by all types of people with varying tastes. Any topic you could imagine now has an accompanying podcast. In case you’re new to the whole digital scene, podcasts are essentially audio or audio/video clips. The content as previously mentioned can be anything — from tech blogs offering up the latest news clips to a cooking how-to. The sky is the limit. Many of you may use other programs for podcasts, and because there are so many programs that offer some form of podcast functionality, it’s impossible to comment on all of them as to which is better. I myself am not a huge podcast user but am subscribed to a couple tech blogs’ podcasts through iTunes. Since I’m not a big podcast user, iTunes is fine. AudialsOne replicates iTunes’ abilities while also giving you the same recording and converting features found in other areas of the app. You know…just in case.
Converter
The final pane, the “Converter” pane, may seem like a repeat or overlap of functionality. I mean, you can set the conversion settings in any other pane in various places. So why dedicate a pane all to itself? Well, this is a more advanced conversion area. The most stand out feature here being the ability to rip that digital cancer — also known as DRM — off of any audio or video file. That’s right. Got some nasty DRM hampering your ability to transfer media files between your digital device? Use AudialsOne to rip that crap out off your property and enjoy your music/videos without any digital nannies. A close runner up in the *favorite* feature department for me.
Some may be wondering why someone needs to rip DRM off of digital media. They may see the very act as illegal and label those who copy such content online renegades of the digital age. They can think what ever they want. But just remember, you can’t always watch everything or purchase everything that you see online. There have been many times in my late, 5-hour energy filled nights that I’ve stumbled across an artist or band in a foreign country that I really liked. So much so that I wanted to purchase some of their work. Being that I’m not in the same country as the content, sometimes I don’t have the choice. This is but another area among many that AudialsOne shines.
If there was one caveat, it would be that AudialsOne is fairly resource heavy, especially when it’s downloading and converting coupled with several browser tabs open and a stray program here or there. Running by itself however, performance wasn’t a problem. For benchmarks to compare to, I’m running on an older Dell XPS 400 with a Pentium D. So not a fast or new computer, it’s not ancient and can at least keep up.
**Update: I almost forgot, there’s a second caveat — Joey, the commenter below jogged my memory. For now, AudialsOne is Windows only. I received an email response from Rapid Solutions responding to my question on if there were any other platforms in development. Sadly, for the time being there are not. A small disappointment…
To wrap it all up, AudialsOne is an extremely robust combination of various softwares and technologies that aim to be your one stop media shop. And at least for me, it easily succeeds. The fact that any type of music from any artist or band is readily accessible is pretty crazy to think about. Plus, the fact that no matter how much music or video content you download, you’ll never have to bother with stupid ID3 tags again as AudialsOne takes care of all of that. That is why for those who constantly on the prowl, searching for new and exciting music, AudialsOne will definitely make your search and journey exponentially easier and dare I say fun?
If you are a media/music/video junkie, this software should definitely be on your list of things to at least consider.
AudialsOne is available for a limited time at a bargain of a price — €44,90 ($59.99 USD) for Windows XP/Vista/7. For the three awesome programs you get all wrapped in one, you’d almost be foolish not to check it out. Would I recommend it? Even if I would have had to pay for it myself, my answer would be a resounding yes. It’s just that simple.
