Some of us just aren’ fortunate enough to be able to live in a place where we can safe walk to the sidewalk without fear of being blown sky high. What seems foreign to is all too common for many of those in third world countries and countries currently in conflict. Current technology simply hasn’t progressed enough to deal with the devastating effects of explosives — that is until now. X-Flex Wallpaper is looking to dramatically reduce the amount of explosive caused injuries and deaths by becoming the first “bomb-proof” wallpaper that can be easily and quickly applied. It’s so easy and fast that one simply has to peel and stick it to a wall with nothing but a few fasters on the corners. How’s that for fast and easy?
The wallpaper was a joint collaboration between Berry Plastics and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In Popular Science’s tests, a 2′x4′ wrecking ball was unable to break through a concrete wall which had X-Flex installed on it. That truly impressive. Just think of how beneficial X-Flex would be in places such as Afghanistan and Iraq were bombs and explosives are as common as rats. X-Flex’s strength may seem other worldly but really isn’t all that complex. Like many other projectile resistant/proof concoctions, it consists of a Kevlar-like material sandwiched by sheets of elastic polymer wrap. This simple yet effective blend is what is able to stop incredibly large amounts of kinetic energy in a super thin package.
If I were building a house in the middle east right now, I would do everything possible to make sure it was equipped with X-Flex. This stuff will really save lives.
