As any true photographer knows, at the end of the day it doesn’t matter how big your lens is, how expensive your camera is, or how many extra attachments you have. It’s the ability for the person operating the camera to “find the shot”. You may or may not actually have that gift but at least you can wear it on your chest, fooling the world and pretending you do. For that, we have the “Still Need the Vision” T-Shirt. Wear it with pride…

The Gas Oven Laptop Cooler.

stove-cooler

At first, hearing the words “gas oven” and “cooler” together will strike you as odd. But in the case of the Gas Oven Laptop Cooler, it makes a little more sense. Laptop coolers are a dime a dozen so when a manufacturer of said products tries to do something different, it can either go very well, or…not so well. In this case, they mostly succeed. The GOLC is a relatively small yet powerful laptop cooler with two big fans in use to keep your lappy cool and happy. One other nifty feature that should please mobile warriors is the USB power — no wall socket in sight. Granted, if you completely without a wall socket, using this will cause your battery to drain faster. Then again, if your laptop is starting to melt, I can see where your decision making might be altered. Finally, a nice blue glow shines from within letting you know when you do and don’t have sweet sweet electricity flowing through the device itself. The light is slightly gimmicky but a cool feature none the less. Oh yeah, I almost forgot — it’s shaped like a gas stove *face palm*.

Seeing as how most laptop coolers are $40+, are you willing to walk out on a limb for $12.69 and save a few dollars in the process? I hear limb walking is all the rage these days…

Best Droid case ever!

Ya, the fact that this is even funny is sad. When your typical smartphone case is getting contention from Mr. Sandwhich’s humble abode you know 3rd party manufacturers need to step it up.

OS Xbox Pro the coolest Xbox mod. Period. Mac Pro stuffed inside…

  • November 24, 2009 6:32 pm

Ok, did I miss some announcement on some bizarre national mod week? I mean the OS XBox Pro (pictured above) is now one of many gadget mods we’ve covered over the last couple of days. All things considered, it could be the millionth custom mod and I would still be just as captivated and geeked out. Some of you may be unimpressed as it appears to be a minor Xbox mod with perhaps some tweaked internal hardware. It’s sitting their in it’s old age all innocent looking. Oh dear reader…how you couldn’t be more wrong. The OS Xbox Pro is damn near an entire Mac Pro stuffed inside of an original Xbox casing. This ingenious and awe-inspiring combination of brains, beauty and creativity is the brain child of Will Urbina. The only requirement Will set out to meet in the beginning was to create a custom mod that was able to run Final Cut Pro. Did he succeeded? Before you check out the video below, try and at least read over a couple of the specs…

  • 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550s
  • NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT
  • 8GB of DDR3 Crucial Ballistix 1333MHz RAM
  • Highpoint RocketRAID 2640×1
  • 16GB 1.8″ Super Talent MasterDrive KX SSD
  • 2x 500GB 7200rpm Seagate Momentus HDD
  • 2x 160GB 5400rpm Seagate Momentus HDD
  • Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3LR

Ya, this little mod that appears to be a simple Xbox tweak will clean the clocks of many multimedia/entertainment computers as well as several mid-range gaming rigs. It’s chock full of hardware — something that seems almost impossible given the Xbox’s rather small case (compared to a traditional computer with similar specs.) If any custom mod has ever left any type of motivation building within, the OS Xbox Pro is definitely “the one”. Who wants 6?

The Pharoh’s computer of choice: NecroMac [Custom Power Mac G3 mod]

You know, I love seeing technology modded. Things like custom Xbox’s, tricked out PC cases, and mashups of the weirdest gadgets really get me going. Seeing as how I’m almost positive that you’re a nerd too, one who also likes custom gadget stuff, allow to share with you NecroMac. The heavily modified Power Mac G3 you see above has hieroglyphs inscribed all over it’s plastic canvas giving it that old Egyptian flare that is really impressive. Achieving this blend of old and new was accomplished by way of white linen paper, lemon juice, and several other products and techniques that bring out that “old as dirt” look. In case you wanted to see this beaut in a few more angles — and I know you do — hop on in for the full 360…

Verizon looking to due a little court room dance of their own with Sprint…

  • November 24, 2009 3:24 pm

facepalm

While many in the tech world are tired of hearing about the back and forth antics between Verizon and AT&T, it seems as if Verizon wants to expand their horizons and simultaneously keep their lawyers on their toes. Not content with simply being sued, Verizon appears to be starting their own legal freight train, steaming ahead at Sprint concerning their latest ads which label the competing CDMA carrier as “America’s most dependable network”. Now really, this lawsuit madness over commercials and toe stepping is getting ridiculous. I love VZW’s coverage since I switched a couple weeks ago, but grow a spine. Seriously. I should also mention that I realize Sprint isn’t directly attacking Sprint as VZW is towards AT&T, the fact of the matter is, everyone is guilty of hyping up their network beyond it’s true worth. Get over it guys, move on, and please for the love of god invest some money in network rollouts instead of stupid lawsuits. We all clear? Good!

Looking to score $100,000 for a 2-minute movie?

  • November 24, 2009 2:14 pm

nikon

Money, the root of all evil, the fuel of all lust. Eh, throw that nonsense aside because I know you really want some cash. Who doesn’t? Nikon is here to help you with that goal. If you hadn’t heard, Nikon is conducting a special contest dubbed the “Nikon Festival”. The gist behind the whole shebang is for consumers like you and I to come up with 2-minute masterpiece movies. What’s the motivation? Only a cool $100k to fatten up your bank account. The requirements are pretty easy. All you need to do is make a move that is 2 minutes in length and follow @nikonfestival for a chance to win the grand prize.

The whole theme of this contest has been given the name: “A Day Through Your Lens” meaning a nice run through of your typical day (please include some surprises) could make your financial lives inredibly easier. With celebrity jduges juding the submitted videos as well as an overall digital outreach shows that Nikon has at least some clue how to remain relevant in the modern age. Going along with the whole social networking thing, contestants are encouraged to use social networks such as Facebook and Twitter to attract votes to their own movies. Before you get discouraged all because you don’t own a Nikon device, turn that frown upside down and take comfort in knowing any user of any device can submit their home movie. No Nikon needed. Super!

So whataya say? No one wants to go Aunt Millie’s this weekend. You want to make a movie and strike it *relatively* big. More details and press release after the jump.
