Hands down best FPS of the 90′s is Goldeneye. That specific James Bond game proved to be quite the time sucker as I often found myself putting things off until just after the next mission. One other extremely fun FPS that got plenty of game time on my old N64 was Perfect Dark. Essentially it was just a more futuristic james bond as the guns weren’t too terribly different. Till this day, long after GoldenEye for N64, Rare (and pretty much no one else for that example), has failed to continue capitalizing on the once great and innovative game. But one game again has the possibility to challenge that — Perfect Dark.
Once stereotyped as a “poor mans GoldenEye”, Perfect Dark was actually a pretty fun and good game. Some may discount the fact that Perfect Dark came across to many in my generation as a GoldenEye clone. Sure, there were a few extra hidden secrets within levels, but a lot of stuff was just so — well, GoldenEye.
At last year’s E3, a “Winter 09″ schedule was shown for a new Perfect Dark that would reignite some of the burnt out fires that many had let go dead deep inside of them. So far, that “Winter 09″ memo that was presented at E3 08 has failed to transpire into what we all want: a GoldenEye/Perfect dark combo package. Though Rare has more or less “confirmed” that an early January release for the next Perfect Dark chapter is in the wings. Now we just have to play the waiting game.
There’s a pretty good guarantee that I’ll be dropping some cash for such a classic. Though simply seeing a classic would be great too. But enough about me, let’s from you: would you pay up in order to have all of your old classic memories brilliantly portrayed on the various TV’s and displays that now litter every corner of our planet?” With no new Perfect Dark in the near term, you all have plenty of time to come up with some ways of passing the time.
So what are you going to do until 2010?
