Think your internet is fast? Google helping construct 23Tbps pipeline due out in 2012.

Car guys brag about their cars. Bodybuilders brag about their muscles. And internet junkies/geeks brag about their internet connection. What’s your fastest tested speed? While I’d love to compete in this competition, my AT&T provided 3Mbps service has other plans for my time. Most notably sitting and twiddling my thumbs while I wait for it. If I had a faster connection, say 17Tbps fast, I could do anything and everything I wanted to. While I can’t afford a 17Tbps line, Google can. In conjunction with several other international companies including Globe Telecom and units of Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications to name a couple.

I sure hope you brought your flippers as the “Southeast Asia Japan Cable” as it will be called will stretch a good 5,150 miles beneath the deep blue sea, initially linking Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines and Japan as well as bringing many areas faster internet which ultimately leads to a happier, longer life. At launch, the cable wil be capable of speeds ranging from 17Tbps all the way up to an upgradable 23Tbps. Talk about speedy. Ok, so maybe all of this internet backbone upgrade is not quite that beneficial. But no one is going to argue that faster moving 1′s and 0′s isn’t a good thing.

While I’m sure after seeing the 17Tbps – 23Tbps claimed speeds this cable is capable of, the actual laying of the cable and associated grunt work will take a fair chunk of time. 2010 won’t be the year. Neither will 2011. Those looking to test out the Southeast Asia Japan Cable will have to wait until 2012 for the cable to be finished.
