Modern Philco PC makes big bubbly tech cool again.

In many different hobbies and areas of society, retro is all the rage. Clothing is one such market in which old styles are constantly reborn and revamped, presented as new once again. However, in regards to technology, old tech isn’t exactly “cool” again. I don’t know about you but when I see an old room-sized computer in old books, I don’t think “Gee, I wish I could have one of those in my room”. Heck, I wouldn’t even want to have a modern computer look like one. They’re big, boxy, and ugly things that don’t deserve a rebirth. But there are a few rare gems. Enter the realm of the Philco PC “Re-Design”.

Designed by David Schultze, this Philco PC remake pays homage to the old Philco TV’s of decades past — namely the 50′s era. The big bubbly screen and bright orange paint job aren’t the coolest part. What really gets me all giddy over this mod is the steampunk keyboark. An actual steampunk design that I actually like! So far I haven’t been a big fan of Steampunk styles as they just don’t tickle my fancy. But I digress.

The old typewrite style keyboard definitely gets props for the whole retro look while blending a modern fit and finish that comes off looking slick and gorgeous — a modern piece of retro-modern art.

What’s you opinion? Would you proudly display this on your desk, using it as your main machine? Or would it get the ‘ol glass case treatment, forever encased in a see-through shrine for all to see?
