I’ve been pretty critical of Google in the past because of their compliance with the Chinese government’s oppressive and inhumane regulations that censor peoples’ lives and limit the information they can contain. In an indirect way, Google themselves were supporting communism. Thankfully it seems I can start regaining some sleep and putting to rest the malice that I’ve been feeling.
Within the last few weeks, various human rights organizers as well as several other unnamed individuals have had their Gmail accounts hacked. Google themselves doesn’t come straight out and say the Chinese government was responsible, but they do go on discussing the careful and steady eye they have aimed at “the people’s republic”.
Two of the most immediate solutions Google listed were talking with the Chinese government about how they can run an uncensored search engine in China (read: don’t hold your breath) or if they should pull any and all Google operations out of China entirely.
I’m siding with the latter. The Chinese Government is in short, a group of thugs and idiots. I applaud Google for finally thinking with some common sense and decency instead of their wallet in their upcoming decision. Sure some other company will come along and take their spot. Who cares.
What’s your take? Do you applaud or resent Google’s stance?
