We’ve talked about it before, lusted after it, wept when Project Dark didn’t bring it to market, and overall kept a close eye on T-Mobile USA’s HSPA+ rollout plans. During an interview with GigaOm, T-Mobile VP of engineering, Dave Mayo, let slip new information regarding magenta’s plans surrounding their new speed demon of a baby. According to Mr. Mayo, the 21Mbps+ network is set to go live starting this year.
Interested to see if it’s coming to you? Word is that the first cities to enjoy T-Mobile’s new HSPA+ network will be those on the west and east coasts. A pretty nifty deal for the inhabitants of coastal cities as big cellular upgrades tend to happen more in larger cities. AT&T meanwhile is also deploying a beefed up network capable of supporting up to 7.2Mbps — a pretty far cry from Tmo’s 21Mbps. As much as claimed speeds wet our whistles, “real-world” results often prove to be much lower. It’s just how it works sadly.
Anyone ready for the onslaught of data you’re going to consumer once moving ahead with HSPA+?
