For all of the stupid commercials and back-n-forth bickering AT&T and Verizon do, sometimes knowing that each company is actually doing something to back up what they say on TV and in press releases is comforting. As far as AT&T goes, we all know they’re full of crap. But Verizon? They may be in the dog house right now for the negative press they’ve been receiving over the mandatory $20 add-on plans and 4chan imaging blocking, but do they actually invest in their network as much as they claim?

Yes, they do. According to Verizon themselves (use some caution here…) they spent roughly $485 million in California alone during 2009. Simple math breaks that number down to $1.3 millin per day. That’s quite a bit of cash. It hasn’t gone to waste though. The west coast isn’t Verizon’s strong point, especially the southern California area. After the massive cash influx though, it looks like things are looking on the up and up.

So at least on the surface it seems that Verizon is being pretty transparent with their network upgrades and expenditures. AT&T — have any rebuttals now? Or are you too busy blowing it on another stupid celebrity commercial….
