Itching for a new weekend multi-year project to take up in your spare time? Best get in touch with Rudy Heeman, your typical mechanic who resides in New Zealand. The last 11 years (and tens of thousands of dollars) that have passed by Rudy have gone towards his love, his creation, his toy — the Hover Wing.
Essentially, if you know how a standard hovercraft works, you’re already more or less caught up on how the Hover Wing works. A simple cushion of air is herded underneath the wing. Unlike your typical hovercraft however, Rudy can propel his Hover Wing up to 4-5ft. off of the ground — again, much higher than your standard hovercraft. Riding high isn’t the Hover Wing’s only trait as when the going gets tough, the tough get going…fast. Rudy can zip along at up to 61mph in his little creation. Wondering what powers it all? A modified Subaru car engine. Ya, it’s got some power.
While not Rudy’s first hovercraft creation, it is by far his most ambitious and obviously, coolest. Once testing is finished and a more “production ready” status is reached, I will literally fight you for the first spot in line.
