Bitten by the Chrome 5 dev build bug today?

I usually am not one to nit pick too bad, but when it comes to gadgets, electronics, software, etc., I want the best. Heck, fastest isn’t fast enough. Sometimes I want to go to 11 when someone says 10 is as high as it goes. For the sake of this article, I’m talking about Google Chrome — my favorite browser. I, like many of you out there spend a considerable amount of time updating Chrome as I make religious use of the dev channel and dev builds. What can I say, I love the bleeding edge stuff.

Today, that bleeding edge cost me some sanity and the ability to check my Gmail with Chrome. You see, someone in the Chrome dev team slipped up a bit and pushed out a dev build with one nasty bug — offline use in the browser would cause it to display an epic fail when bringing up your inbox page. If you go into the settings and uncheck offline mode, you’re back in business though.

In all honesty, bugs such as this should be expected with a dev build. But even still, I’m seeing countless comments on blogs across the web of people ripping on Google for “pushing out flawed products”. Ummm, hello! It’s a damn DEV product. That’s even more removed than a beta. Some people…I tell ya.

Anywho, just thought I’d let you, (and you. Yes, you over there too) know that it wasn’t some crazy happening with your own computer, house, network, etc. Google was having an oops moment. Carry on.
