OS 6.0 leaked or clever photoshop?

  • March 19, 2010 8:55 am

Supposedly, the above images you see depict the still a ways away OS 6.0. At first glance, I kinda of like it. I mean, it’s a tad cartooney, buy definitely a lot more “modern” looking than any past RIM UI’s. Some further tweaking needs to be done though before I’d call it “finished”.

Of course, with leaked shots on something as large as this, naysayers will come out in droves. At this point, I also happen to be one of those naysayers. As BBLeaks, CrackBerry, and many commentors across both sites have noted, the screenshots look eerily similar to the “concierge app” shown off at DevCon. Not to mention, th e overall look while progress, doesn’t quite follow RIM’s traditional standards. Of course, they could be taking new steps into uncharted territories.

As cool as it has the potential to be, I think these claimed OS 6.0 images are fake. I just hope RIM has some rather large UI updates like this in store for the real OS 6.0. What’s your call?

Yay, more 360 storage without breaking my wallet!

  • March 19, 2010 8:32 am

Soon, all of us 360 owners will be shoved an update that will now allow for USB Storage compatibility! This is actually exciting news, we no longer will be only left with the option to fork out a small fortune for Microsoft’s drives, we can use our own HDD for game saves, downloadable games and DLC.

For me this is huge, because when I first purchased my 360, years ago, I had a 20g harddrive option. That is all I have, which is actually left with around 4 or so gigs. My only option at the moment is to purchase Microsoft’s drive transfer tool thingy, and a new 360 drive, transfer everything over, and then move on. This is the only thing I can do because I don’t want to lose all of my game saves.

This update will give us the ability to run up to 2 different storage devices which must be at least 1gb in size, and no more than 16gbs. That is an extra 32gb max of storage. Now, that doesn’t seem like a lot, but for those of us that don’t want to give out all our money for the tools, we can add our own flash drives or whatever to store the DLC without losing our main HDD.

This is going to be a very satisifying update for myself, and I’m sure a lot of you out there are happy about this. I haven’t seen a release date of the Update yet, but it is supposed to be out sometime this year, lol.

iPad delay — Thank you Wintek

  • March 19, 2010 7:23 am

Plunkered down a couple benjamin’s and are now fuming because your precious iPad is tracking backwards, further and further from the original release? Normally the resulting anger would be directed at the company itself. In the case of the iPad however, it seems it isn’t Apple, but touchscreen supplier Wintek who is causing the slowdown. The account comes compliments of Chinese-language paper “Liberty Times”, citing a touchpanel bottleneck as the sole reason. Wintek meanwhile has denied any manufacturing problems and denied any questions seeking answers on particular customers of Wintek.

Short of knowing who is the one behind the Jesus Pad’s delayed debut, does it really matter? I guess for some it’s a sort of closure. Does knowing who’s causing your iPad to sit in some factory shelf instead of your hands make you feel a little bit better?

Sonic 4 detailed in pictures! Coming this summer.

  • March 19, 2010 5:38 am

Call me a child, a nerd, a dork — whatever. Sonic the Hedgehog is the sh*t! Back in the SEGA Genesis hayday, this little blue creature kept me occupied for hours on end many a weekend. No joke. So when word spread of a new, revamped Sonic, I was beyond ecstatic.

The new Sonic the Hedgehog while still a 2D scroller (nice retro touch) is still a sight for sore eyes, with a much more polished UI and fluid gameplay. Starting this summer, the little blue hedgehog will be fully available to the masses on WiiWare, PSN, XBL, and some “mystery platform”. (SEGA getting a second wind…?!) But, starting now, any hyped up nerds (such as myself) can get in on the action early and download the music from Act 1: Splash Hill. Excited yet?

Seagate announces new world’s first, 2TB Constellation SATA 3.0 hard drive.

  • March 19, 2010 4:09 am

Who doesn’t want a faster computer? When I help people out with computer issues, the thing I hear most often is “how can you make my computer faster?” A hard alone isn’t going to do much, unfortunately. But it is one area that in the near future that will make at least a small noticeable difference, especially with 6Gbps SATA 3.0 on board. Whipping around at 7200RPM’s, Seagate bills their new 2TB Constellation ES monster drives as “enterprise class”, signaling that those who loathe ever turning off their machines should be happy as a clam with these new drives.

A few added bonuses by Seagate include: PowerChoice technology in order to make the drives as energy sipping as possible, yet still speedy as ever; government-grade encryption, and improved cooling.

Judging by past announcements and rollouts being a tad further apart than we like, I doubt we’ll see this new 2TB behemoth in particular before mid-summer. I’m always optimistic though. Who’s looking for a mass storage upgrade?

The brilliant mind behind the CD spindle bagel holder is a modern day Jesus…

  • March 18, 2010 9:34 pm

Ya, you could be all crafty and invent some uber gadget that completely automates your life — dressing you, brushing your teeth, wiping your as…. but that would just take all the fun out of life, wouldn’t it? So what is the next best thing to the brain implanted chip that allows you to see through walls and compute complex calculations faster than the world’s fastest super computer? Simple — a CD spindle bagel holder. It’s so basic yet so ingenious that I want to shake this guy (or gals) hand. As an added bonus, by not using plastic bag after plastic bag, some baby walrus laying motionless on some remote iceberg will live to see another day. Awe…how sweet. Think of the baby walruses will ya….

TMO and Clearwire to become best of friends..?

  • March 18, 2010 12:57 pm

Think of a world where opposite beings such as T-Mobile and Sprint worked together? Weird isn’t it? The odd pairing might not be such an uncommon thing in the near future. In efforts to boost network capacity and resilience, T-Mobile is rumored to be in talks with Clearwire in a potential partnership. So far, Sprint has been the only major carrier to make use of Clearwire’s 4G wireless technology. The speed is there for sure. But having T-Mobile and Clearwire/Sprint more or less working together is, well, weird.

Sprint and T-Mobile in particular are competitors. Another thing to keep in mind is that T-Mobile, while not exactly “bleeding customers”, isn’t exactly booming. For Sprint, the outlook is even worse. Taking two under performing or stagnant companies and combining, them whether through a buyout or partnership isn’t exactly the best of choices for any party involved.

Through it all, the speed increases are hard to ignore. T-Mobile users in particular probably are blinded more so than Sprint users as they’re still fairly new to this whole high speed thing. Promises of leapfrogging ahead of the competition may seem like an awesome goal to rush towards. But partnering up with Sprint…? I just don’t see success at the end of that tunnel.
