You know, the audacity of the RIAA/MPAA astounds me. Not only do they lie about their general purpose in life, but they constantly push their personal profit seeking ways harder and further with each passing year. If you think the whole censorship/web monitoring thing in China is bad, the RIAA/MPAA’s new plans submitted to the Office of Intellectual Property Enforcement are enough to scare anyone. Have a look for yourself, here’s what those bastards want:
- Spyware on your computer that detects and deletes infringing materials
- Mandatory censorware on all Internet connections to interdict transfers of infringing material
- Border searches of personal media players, laptops and thumb-drives
- International bullying to force other countries to implement the same policies
- Free copyright enforcement provided by Fed cops and agencies (including the Department of Homeland Security!)
I would *hope* that whomever the individuals are that run the Office of IP Enforcement would have at least one or two competent minds working there and realize how bullshit these plans are. Then again, we live in the country where people can sue (and win) for spilling hot coffee on their laps…
Fuck the RIAA/MPAA
