For all the things someone could do with a jailbroken/unlocked iPhone, slapping another OS on there is one of the more extreme measures. Porting Android — the essential polar opposite — is I’d imagine no small feat.
A talented man by the name of David Wong has managed to push Android onto his iPhone 2G, turning it into a dual-booting beast of a smartphone. What’s even better than the simple claim of “Android on the iPhone” is that everything that is considered vital for a smartphone (voice calls, data, sms, etc) works!
Dave’s only gripe — the iPhone 2G doesn’t have enough hardware buttons meaning the volume buttons have become repurposed to the volume and call buttons. My only gripe — it’s not 2.0/2.01/2.1. But hey, whatever it takes Dave.
Moving upstream to the iPhone 3G according to Dave is doable while the 3GS would be more of a project seeing as how the internals are vastly different.
Anyone wanting to try it for themselves? (Video and gallery below)
